First off, I've been lurking on this forum (especially the Spyderco section :) ) for well over a year now, and have found a wealth of knowledge. Everyone's contributions and insights are great, just wanted to say thanks.
Getting that out of the way, Ive been juggling the carbon fiber caly 3 (zdp 189/420j2 blade) and the frn delica 4 (zdp 189 blade) in and out of edc rotation. Both of which are excellent knives and steels in their own rights, however I find myself constantly wishing that they had a love child together, lol. Now keep in mind this is all my own personal preference, but there are certain things I like/dislike about each. I love the rigidity, and little extra heft of the caly 3 with its full liners and steel spacer, to me, it just feels more "solid" in the hand. Now with saying that, I have not had any problems with the frn grip of my delica and its been a hard use edc for over a year now, but it just feels a little too light for my tastes. Now you would think that would make me carry the caly more often, it doesn't. Now I may get flamed for saying this but, I dont like the FFG. I really do like the saber grind on my delica, and have yet to need any "additional" slicing power from a ffg blade. I find the saber grind to be a lot more robust (tip especially), and have never feared using it, unlike I do in some situations with the caly. Those are my two main concerns, with the other aspects of each knife being negligible in this discussion. Now after doing a little bit of research I noticed that the delica that was made with G10 scales also has a similar setup as the caly cf does (full steel liners and spacer). After digging quite a bit, I finally found a store still selling them, however, it is only the 2009 model which has the FFG blade in vg-10. In spite of that I jumped on it this afternoon with the plans of improving it. Im sure you can all guess where this is headed now, but my plan is to blade swap the sg zdp 189 blade, with the ffg vg 10 blade. I've only seen and read about blade swaps done between knives with similar handles, so I'm hoping it should work out all the same. Any insight is always appreciated, so let me know what you guys think and I'll keep you posted.
P.S. I know a post isn't a post without something to look at, so here are the two culprits being discussed.

No guarantee it will work, and it will definitely void both warranties, but some folks have successfully swapped the blade/lockbar sets between G-10 and FRN versions of the Delica 4.

It should work. Just try to keep as much metal together between sets as possible (i.e. the blade with its corresponding original lock bar, spring, etc.) I'm not sure if the size of the D-Bolts is going to be different between the two, though.

Yea, I'm hoping that corresponding layouts between the two will be close enough to to switch out all three parts. Hopefully  haha. Ill take pictures of both knives open so that any differences could be pointed out. G10 Delica eta ~3days, ill keep everyone posted. Thanks

Sounds really cool. Are they have the same blade and handel length if so most likely its gonna work.

Well after checking USPS tracking just about every hour for 4 days, haha, the new G10 delica finally arrived. Let me just say this knife is solid. I wasn't sure how much of an improvement it would be from the FRN version, but it is substantial. No blade flex or handle flex what so ever. It just feels more solid in your hands over the FRN. To begin the swap I took apart the FRN zdp-189 delica first, and without any problems laid it all out. When I went to take apart the d-bolts in the G10 delica however, the screw behind the lockbar turned out to be completely stuck. I sprayed some PB Blaster on the screw, let sit 30 min, still would not budge. Working with a T-6 screw tip does not allow for much torque either, if too much pressure was applied the tip of the driver would mar/ strip out. After taking a dremel to the T6 driver head 3 times (to grind down to a good tip again) I had to give up. I removed the 4 other d-bolts and luckily I had enough play with the liners to still move the back spacer around a bit. After taking apart both knives only some small differences could be pointed out. Of course the liners, The G10s being identical in design except with an extra ~1/8" of metal around the outside. The two other differences go hand in hand but, it appeared the blade lock and lockbar designs differed slightly between the two models. Putting both knives back together went fairly smooth and I was able to swap out all 3 parts between them (blade, lockbar, spring). After putting them back together I hit the screws with some loc-tite blue and tightened everything down.To finish it off I cleaned them up, then polished them for the photo shoot. :D As an aside, I was quite surprised at how much lighter the ffg blade felt compared to the saber ground blade. It really feels quite light in the frn handle, and the saber ground definitely feels better mated in the g10. All in all very happy with the swap, and if it wasnt for that one d bolt everything would have went extremely smooth. If you're on the fence like I was, do it, you wont be disappointed. If anyone is still looking to pick up G10 delicas let me know and Ill send you the link to the store I got them from. Cost me 140$ shipped, from Canada to Maui :). I took some before, some during, and some after pictures, enjoy.
