Delica 4 - thicker blade = less slicing ability?

I love the ergos of the newest Delica, but the blade's thickness is enough to give me pause. How well does slice?? Are there any impediments to general cutting tasks, or is it a substance-severing machine?

I'm also curious about the wave feature - does it get in the way when cutting, hook onto things you don't want it on, etc? I think it's the option I'd prefer, but I'd like to ask the experts first

thanks,
Trout

Being saber ground, it doesn't slice as well as a ritter griptilian or a Manix, but I doubt that it can't handle any daily task you throw at it. I've never had a problem with the wave accidentally hooking on anything and it purposely hooks on my pocket whenever I choose. The Endura and Delica waves are some of the best value folders on the market IMHO. The tips on these knives are also thicker than normal, making it very difficult to chip at the tip.

havent had any problems cutting anything with it. havent hooked it on anything either.. great knife and very easy to keep sharp. the vg10 blade is a cinch to hone to razor edge.

The somewhat thicker and lower saber grind on the D4 (compared to the D3) doesn't slice as well, and certainly not as well as the flat ground Caly Jr or Caly3. The Delica is built for heavier use than the others mentioned. The lower grind and less pointed tip are refinements based on the damage history and customer feedback on the older Delica models. Being relatively inexpensive, the Delica tends to get used as a beater, so it has been reinforced accordingly. If you want a light duty slicer, it isn't the best choice. If you want a medium to heavy duty cutter, you could do a lot worse than the Delica.

The wave feature is great if you are into that sort of thing. Personally, I'm never in that much of a hurry to get the blade open (I guess I'm getting old  ) and I prefer tip down carry, but to each his own.

I cannot forget the old Delica with DELICATE hollow grind. The #4 is a quite different knife, as yablanowitz said.

Thanks for the replies, y'all. I love the ergos and size of the D4, despite usually preferring larger folders. However, I do like a primary EDC to have at least decent slicing abilities; my 551 Griptilian in D2 is only ok at slicing. Given those parameters, perhaps I should look more closely into the Lone Wolf Harsey T2 that I've been eyeballing. A major attraction of the D4 is price... we'll see what happens and thanks again. I'm also gonna take a look at the Calypso Jr.
