As a newly converted spyderco fan , Let me warn all readers. I am not responsible for the money which you will spend after buying your first Syderco. Blame Sal for making such great products  . Now on with the review . The Delica legacy has been around for a while now (now on version 4 ) and their is a reason . These are fantastic knives well worth the money. My Delica is a saber grind that was , as usual, razor sharp out of the box . I've had this knife for about a month now and I use it for e.d.c rotating out with a Byrd meadowlark . Have I sharpened it in this time , yes I have . Did it need it, not really , but I like sharpening my knives . :) There is nothing I can find to say negative about this knife . So if you expect this to be a Spyderco bashing ,It's not gonna happen . I think this is the perfect knife to start with for anyone wanting to try a Spyderco .The VG-10 steel is an awesome steel that will, not only hold an edge , it will get extremely sharp with the right patience and a light touch . I re-profiled mine to my lanski which varied the
30° bevel ,that most Spyderco's are, slightly smaller and it is very ,very sharp
I usually finish up with a light stropping on the leather . The knife holds up to everything I do as a maintenance man on a daily basis and begs for more . Those of you who have not held a Spyderco , all I can tell you is it's very addictive . It fits in your hand and just feels right , I find myself reaching over and opening and closing it for no reason all the time. It really annoys the wife . :( The finish on this knife is superb . the blade is dead center with no side slack. The lock is solid and very smooth . And if you haven't used a Spydie hole , let me tell you it is a very smooth deployment of the blade . Way better than thumb pegs . The FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) handle
is very comfortable and offers a secure , non-slipping grip . The jimping on the spine of the knife is just enough not to slip , but not enough to hang on your pocket . I personally don't like a jimping thats to aggressive and this one is not . The clip can be installed tip-up ,tip-down , left or right hand . I just can't find anything that I see that needs changing . If your undecided about buying a Spyderco knife , then spend 50 bucks on this one. You won't be disappointed :D P.S. And like I said , When you find yourself with Syderco knives laying around you everywhere , It's SAL's fault

I agree with almost everything you write. I've had my Delica 4 (saber) for 2 years now, and it has been in rotation ever since. I wasn't impressed with the rigidity of it at first, but it held its own admirably in light to medium cutting, and it grew on me.

It is the easiest to deploy knife I have, very light and quick to open, and, very important, ditto to close and reposition. And yes, fantastic ergos. At first it looked like it would ripp the fabric of my trousers, but slightly cutting away the texturing under the clip remedied that. The VG 10 is superb. After cutting up a few cardboard boxes, I don't have to check the edge, I know it 'll still pop hairs. I reprofiled it with the Lansky, and I touch it up every now and then on the Sharpmaker (15 degrees with a microbevel).

I 've been having my eye on a Dragonfly lately because I would like an even lighter knife with a FFG. The version with the wire clip seems what I 'need' ;)

I agree with your observations. I have had mine for about 2 1/2 years. I dont EDC it as Im a slipjoint man, but I have used it fishing and hunting also as the extrablade in moosehunting and I think this is a realy good folding knife. Im not having a secondary edge on it I sharpen it the Scandinavian way putting the whole grinding surface to the stone giving it a low angle with a little convex edge just above the very edge. The steel vg 10 works well at the angle and makes it sharp. I like the clip and use it on the pcket sometimes but most often I carry it in the bottom of my pocket as the life in boats, cars and hunting environment more than once has made my clips bend.

This is my favorite user knife. The only thing I don't like about it is the handle: the middle hump is right where my middle finger wants to be. So I took it to a bench grinder and ground that hump down. It barely changes the look of the knife and makes it a thousand times more comfortable.

I've yet to meet anyone who did not like the Delica. I often recommend it to someone who just wants one decent knife to EDC.

I think the Delica could be sold at double the price and still be a good deal.

And made from top level components in an American company that stands by their product.

At first glance, knife newbies think it can't be worth the price because "it's made of plastic!". I confess to having similar thoughts myself when i saw the first one...but looks really are deceiving in the case of the Delica. It's one tough little package.

A Delica has been in my EDC rotation for years. If I found myself somehow relying on whatever knife I stuck in my pocket that morning to survive, reaching down and finding today was a Delica day would be a great relief.

I had the same feeling when I was looking for a "first knife." I thought FRN would be some cheap-crap plastic. I held one in a store, and then I changed my mind. It was a lot different than I thought; it was more solid and wasn't the type of plastic that I thought would crack.

My first knife also was a Delica followed by Endura, Police and then I coverted to Cold Steel. Believe it or not but my EDC now is the Rajah11 and Spartan.

I totally agree. Even though I have bigger and badder knives in my collection now, I trust my saber-ground Delica 4 PE the most, and always carry it hiking or camping, in addition to my EDC rotation. I just know it's going to cut anything I ask of it (within reason).

Yeah, I really liked my delica 4 in vg10 too...until I got the d4 zdp-189 version. That thing is a folding lightsaber that just won't go dull, and I love the British racing green handle. Now I need one ffg and one waved, and I'll feel a little more fulfilled.

I still carry the vg10 when camping or hiking because it is so corrosion resistant, and now I think I need to try it as a scandi grind.

IMHO :),

The Delica is a classic. A must have for any knife-nut. I have several now that they come in colors. I agree that if you only needed one knife, it would be a superb choice.

Hey DoubleDutch, may I recommend a Dragonfly 2 in Foliage Green with G10 scale? Excellent little-big knife. You can't go wrong with it if you want to carry something smaller than a Delica. Jimping on top and bottom affords excellent control and its just big enough to feel good in the hand.

IMHO :)
