Thank you spyderco!
Thursday night i came home and i found my delica 4 Wave in the mail.
Well thats a need little devil. Comparing it with my native 3 i found it has a flat grind compared to the hollow grind on my native. I shaved some hair of my forearm and yes it was shaving like a baby so smooth!!
After some initial fumbling i found out the best way to use the Wave is to pull it out from my jeanspocket in this way:
Make a outward and slightly backward motion to get it open very quikly
WOW now we are talking....;)

Due to the steel liners i think (you may correct me) it opens even smoother than
my native 3 PE.
I also like that it is torxed and not pinned so i can take it apart in case of excess dirt.
Furthermore i like the kind of greyish /dark blue FRN scales

The reason i ordered a Waved version is that I prefer the blade shape of wave
compared to regular D4 . It has a more kind of spearpoint blade and i think it looks nicer. And ofcoarse the Wave .

Question ; Are these FRN Foliage Green scales available Loose???

I sure would like the alternative to put other colours on the knive :)

Another nice toy in my collection :p

Next on my SANTA list :
Fred Perrin/Spyderco Street Beat (Already sold out at NGK!!!)
Caly 3 pe

I am pretty sure nobody is currently selling the loose FG scales, but a FG WD$ would look awesome. I say it is one more excuse to buy another knife ;) I would assume they would fit but I am not for sure on that so a member owning both knives would be more suitable to answer that questions.

There is no reason why you couldn't switch the scales between knives, but at this time Spyderco doesn't just sell the different colored scales. But we continue to ask. :)

Hello Zen

That sure would be something;

Foliage Green. Racing Green. Pink for the ladies. Burgundy red. Tan Camo.
Dessert Camo. Cobalt. Deep purple. What else we can come up with :)
But no kidding. I probably think this would not be profitable for the Co. just scales .

For the other newbies. mr. Blonde a hardcore spydie fan and fellowcountryman has a very need site called spydercollector.nl. At this site at the thread News there is a chapter called 'Delica 4 Lego!" . Here you can see how to dismantle D4's.
WARNING: this will void your warranty!!

Well in the future i may get me a foliage green d4 although i dont like CE versions in small knives.

Hi Maarten!

Mr. Blonde is a good guy. If you haven't yet, come on over to the Spyderco.com forum. I swear we have half of your countrymen as members. :D

The foliage green D4 is a nice piece. I can understand your CE feelings but it isn't so bad on the Delica.

The learning curve is tiny in my opinion. Just try it out really slowly the first few times to see what is actually happening. If you do that, I swear you won't cut yourself.

Maarten, I'm with you on the scale switching in the D4 line. To offer these spare scales, however, I think Spyderco needs to modify the design of the spacer unit. There are two tiny FRN nipples that need to be changed into 'bars' (or something similar) like was done on the FRN Meadowlark. That way, it's easier for people to reassemble the folder. (so you can do a 'sandwich style build').

Contrary to my 'Delica 4 Lego' article, I'd suggest rebuilding the entire handle first and then to 'wiggle in' the blade and spacers. This way, the FRN 'nipples' are spared.

Hi wouter thanx
I see your point about the spacerunit. If the nipples brake of probably the handle/steel liners won't fit thight anymore..
And when spanning the lockingbar it might slip off the spacerunit if it is not hold between two liners/scales at the same time. this may cause damage to the unit.

Furthermore in the past i had trouble inserting a blade between the handlescales a.i.s the washers got dented and i had to replace them.

this was not on a spydie but a friends cheap folder with a terrible linerlock about just 1 mm thick that failed very often . After cutting himself after the blade closed on his right hand he put it in a wrench broke the blade and threw it in the garbagecan :). I can't recall the brand made in taiwan i believe and a coldsteel alike ripoff .

I hate fake knives

And now i gonna read your opinion on the boker subcom a very popular little cutter

On this side you can see a little movie on the emerson wave with cqc-7:

As wouter said try it out first be slow till you get more confident

Myself i tend to pull it up and slightly back and sideways of me. If you pull it up straight horizontal the wave won't work properly.

My girlfriend has a little speedlock 2 auto which tends to clock up with purse flint tobacco etc. I have to dismantle it at least twice a year and clean and oil it to work properly. It is a very good little knive but i don't trust autos for this reason. They are fussy about dirt (just like girls):foot:

Hope this will help mr deep darkest southern indiana
Bye:D
