Delica 4 Wave hurts my thumb! :(

Hey Spydie lovers, I just got a Delica Wave 4 and find the hole in the blade a real pain to use. It's too bad the hole isn't recessed along the edge to make it more ergonomic. As it is I find the hole's edge to hurt my thumb and too small. :( It's a bummer as otherwise I think this is a fine knife.

I know a lot of people also like the Tenacious for EDC. Is the hole on that one larger and easier to use? The price is certainly right, but the weight of 4 ounces turned me off.

I was also considering Cold Steel, a mini-AK-47. Though I hate the teflon coating. Want to be able to slice food too, but not have the coating come off.

Thanks for any info you guys can provide!

To paraphase Sal Glesser, sharp corners are a sign of good machining. Additionally it's easier to take of material(with sandpaper for example) than to add material.

A lot of people prefer sharp edges on the opening hole because it "hold" more especially with wet hands or when using gloves.

You might have a burr on the edge of your opening hole which might even cut the skin on your thumb.

Bought a waved Endura a couple weeks ago, when it arrived I couldn't even flick it open. I put a drop of 'blue lube' on it, and loosened the pivot a hair - better, but still not as buttery as my Delica…..yet! My Delica was super stiff when I got it, too. IMO, keep using it. :)

My Endura 4 flicks out with ease. My new Matriarch 2 Waved and blacked out, opens stiff by thumb, but the wave feature works well with loose pockets, tight Levis and the blade does not want to deploy fully. I can press the lock on the Endura and the blade will fold shut, that's smooth swinging. It took a year of opening daily and now its buttery smooth. The Endura 4 is light weight and makes a great EDC. I use a q-tip to absorb any oil that migrates from the pivot pin area, keeps the lock clean and prevents debris buildup.

don't press the flesh of your thumb in the hole, stick the whole tip of your thumb in it, and flick it open with the top part of your thumb, your nail that is.

I read the OP again and I can't seem to find that the poster said that his knife was stiff to open. I understand that his concern is about the sharpness of the edge of the hole. He even mentioned that he would like some recessing or to use a more correct term, chamfering, on the edge of the hole.

Spydie flick.

No more thumb issue.

If I wasn't looking at it on a small screen I would of saw it was a waved Delica.

That is how you deploy a waved knife
