I have been a SAK-fan for many years now but I finally decided to buy a knife with just a blade and no tools. I went to the local knife store and was recommended a Spyderco Delica 4.

I know that Spyderco is well known to manufacture excellent knives but since I have only been using SAKs for many years I would like to hear some comments on the knife I bought.

I must say I love the knife so far, what do you think, was it a good choice?

I would say it's a more than solid purchase for your first (single blade) EDC. You heard right.. Spyderco does make excellent knives.

I have one myself, fully serrated with a grey/green handle. It's a little older (with VG-10 steel, now they're making a lot of them with ZDP189), but one of my favorites. I had a little play in my lock when it first arrived, but I tightened it a bit myself and now it's flawless.

Good buy!

I think its about the "best" knife on the market for EDC, when you factor in utility, size, ease of carry (thin), price, etc.

Its also a gateway drug to the many knife purchases that lay ahead of you.

Powernoodle has a point about the gateway drug thing. I remember I started my little knife sickness with a little Gerber EZ-Out like 14 years ago when I was 10 years old (mom bought it for me, thanks mom). I have a lot of knives now that are a lot better, so suffice it to say, if you are starting your collection with a Spyderco Delica 4, you might be in serious trouble. In about a year's time you might find yourself shopping for an Emerson, and in about two years you might be looking into some Sebenzas :o

My first EDC was a 1st gen Delica oh so many years ago. My wife still has the one I bought for her at that time, too. You really can't go wrong with the Delica. Next, you'll have to try the Endura, then the Caly3, then the Paramilitary, then the... you get the point. Welcome to the disease.

have 3 and will be getting more, i really like the delica, one of my favourite edc knives

Hi Pluto,

thanx for the interest and support.

I'm carrying a Delica4 today. It's not a flashy design, but it does provide for reliable cutting.

A Delica 4 was the 10th knife in my collection, It SHOULD have been my first

yes, the delica 4 is a great choice. its one of the best pocket knives around, because it is reliable, simple to use, good price, and good size.

Only you can tell us if it was a good choice for yourself. I know it was a good choice for me.

A Spyderco Delica 4 was my first "good" pocket folder, purchased 2-1/2 years ago, after taking recommendations here and in another knives-related forum. It has seen more pocket time than the other two similarly-sized pocket-folders I've had for a while, combined. My personal opinion is the Delica 4 is pretty-much impossible to beat for its quality and ergonomics at its price-point. Currently I'm giving a recently-acquired Benchmade Mini-Grip the opportunity to live up to my Delica. We'll see ;).
