Delica Blade Change or Repair

I have an old AUS-8 Delica with the plastic clip. The blade touched an electrical circuit which blew the tip off and also a chip from the cutting edge. Now this is clearly abuse, but what would it cost to reblade this knife? Can it be done by Spyderco? I know I could buy a new Delica but it would not have a plastic clip.

Solution:

Put her on a display stand and get yourself a new Delica with a far superior Stainless Steel clip (they are black coated on the FRN models)

Yep, it'll cost more to replace the blade than to replace the knife. Get yourself a brand new Delica and put an old one aside as a reminder to be careful. I ruined one knife in exactly the same way, and now it's a conversation piece and occasionally serves as a bottle opener... :D

I never liked the FRN clip like the ones on the ProGrip.
You can't replace the blade on the FRN knifes because they're riveted. The efforts taken to remove the rivet is better spent at just earning a few bucks and replace it.

First of all, I doubt Spyderco would replace the blade on a riveted FRN model. Even if the problem was covered by warranty, they'd prolly insist on sending you a new one.

Second, I'm fairly sure the blades on the old-style integral clip Delicas are slightly shorter than the modern SS clip ones. They might not be able to fix it if they wanted to. (If the blade changed five years ago, there's a good chance they don't have any of the old style on hand).

Honestly, you may be out of luck. You'll probably have to either get used to a steel clip, or get used to a different knife (the FRN Progrip and Dragonfly have integral clips... any others?)

Spydersaw :p

You could also try Ebay, or post a request on the appropriate exchange forum. Someone might have an old Delica user they'd be willing to part with.

I think Spyderco can only do blade replacements on Golden-made Spydercos.

It is possible (at least theoretically). The VG-10 blades from the CF Delicas are the same size as the one at your Delica (the newer ones with barrel clip are slightly longer). I doubt though those guys at Spyderco will take the risk of permanently damaging the handles while taking out the old blade. Maybe you should try to do it yourself.
