Delica blade tip

I remember someone saying they put more of a point on their Delica, what is wrong with the factory tip or is it just personal preference?

I think it's personal preference. Maybe aesthetics or just a need for a more piercing tip.

That was me rmeron. It's just a personal preference thing. I like my tips optimized for performance rather than strength. The older Delicas had a more acute tip but there were too many complaints of broken tips so they made a subtle change in the blade profile...that's why the new ones have that little drop at the tip. I prefer the performance of the older more acute tip. It's good that they make them the way they do. Most people like the extra steel at the tip and for those of us that don't, it's a very simple task to convert it.

Here's a pic of my hap40 Delica after sanding down the spine.

Functionally I prefer a pointier tip and aesthetically it's an improvement too. Many people have done this mod. I wish it came that way from the factory but I understand why people complaining of broken tips could create a headache for Spyderco.

That came out nice. The more acute tip makes it look like a mini paramilitary blade.

Definitely came out nice but I'll keep my blade the way it is if nothing else but warranty.

I like that so much better. I wish they still made them that way. I wonder what people were doing with the Delica/Endura that they aren't doing with the Military/PM2?

Thanks jstrange, I like this better too, but like I said, I'm perfectly happy with the way they make them now. The slightly fatter tip suits most folks fine and those of us who like them stabbier can make them that way in about 5 minutes with a grinder or 10 minutes with a piece of sand paper on a flat surface.

It is an easy mod to bring the tip back to the straight spine pointy tip it should be.

I have done it to a few Delica4s now.

I prefer a point tip, but with a ffg blade it serves well. But again I would like to see it on the Delicas & Enduras again. Nice mod Surfingringo & bearfacedkiller. Gary

All the original Delica's had a pointy tip. Delica 1, 2 and 3. The Delica 4 changed the tip for the worse. I prefer the pointy tip too. Then again, I don't use my knives to do anything except cut.

I believe the dropped tip design was done due to the full flat grind thickness reduction at the very tip end.

I much prefer the dropped tip shape.

Regards,
FK

That design change is what finally tipped the scales for me in favor of an original Police design over the Police 3. That and I like stainless. Didn't care for the Endura or Delica blade shapes lacking the pointy tip.

Not that I've shied away from a regrind or two... :)
