Hey all,

Well, I must have misplaced my Delica (ATS-55 version) :( , as I haven't seen it for a month or so, and I'm really bummed out about it. This was my only Spyderco, but I really liked it.

My question is, how do the Calypso Jr and Centofante III compare to the Delica. I am tempted to get another Delica, as the VG-10 version sounds pretty cool, but if I find my old one then I'll have two Delicas. Not a bad thing, certainly, but the other two also sound nifty, and I would like to try one of them out, too. My budget only goes so far...

I like the blade shape on the Centofante, and the flat grind of the Calypso. I have only seen them once, briefly, but have never used either of them. The Centofante seemed to have a fairly thin blade, but I don't pry very much with my knives. :)

I used my Delica at work, around the house, as well as outdoors on hikes, fishing, and camping. Gets dirty and oily at work, cutting tie-wraps, twine, cable insulation, boxes, stuff like that, but sharpens and cleans up well. I didn't have it for a very long time, but it really grew on me, and made a great companion to a SAK and Leatherman Wave! A very do it all combo!

I'm carrying a Gerber EZ-Out as my one-hander at the moment, nice knife but not quite the same. Any input would be appreciated.

I love the Calypso Jr. It's slightly shorter than the Centofante III, but the handle feels better. (Not a big fan of the smooth FRN of the Cento) The Calpyso Jr Slices like a dream.

I have both...and they are both fantastic knives. I agree with GarageBoy in that the handle on the Calypso is much better, but for the work the Centofante is designed for, I don't have a problem with the smooth FRN.

In terms of slicing, I think they're fairly even. Even though the Centofante is not a full-grind, it is thinner than the Calypso so it slices basically just as well.

I think the decision comes down to aesthetics and desired blade length.

I have all three. They are terrific knives. I have the Delica in vg 10 and in ats 55. I would give the edge to the Calypso. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Thanks for the opinions so far!

Hmmmm, that Calypso Jr. looks like it might just fit my bill. Still a tough choice, though. Need to save up and see what I can get...
Stupid gas prices

I have a Delica...I love that knife, it's the best wee knives I've ever had. It may be boring to buy the same model again, but as a Delica owner, I know I would, I mean its just so...perfect, for everyday use I mean....REALLY!

The Calypso jr. and Centofante III are some of the best knives for the money that I know about. Performance wise, I think they are about even, probably the biggest concern is size. The Centofante III is a hair over 3" while the Calypso is more like 2 2/3". If you live in an under 3" jurisdiction, the Calypso may be better. If that's not a problem, get both, it will set you back less than $90 even if you get both new.

I have all of them. The Centofante is nice but frankly I seldom carry it. The Calypso jr. is awsome. It managed to get to the EDC state (which was previously occupied by the Delica - my love). There's only one knife better than the Calypso jr. and this is my SE Delica in full flat grind - yes, full flat grind - a custom job, of course.
Therefore, I strongly reccommend the Calypso jr.
