delica dismantling?

I just got my first real knife (delica 4) and I saw on the knifecenter website a thing you can buy which has replacement parts for it. My dad has a wood shop in the garage and I wanted to try making some wooden scales for it. I'm a bit wary of dismantling it without knowing what I'm doing first so I wanted to ask if anyone here has ever dismantled a delica or other lockback. Also, thanks to bladeforums for helping me choose a great knife. oh and hi to everyone this is my first post :)

Welcome aboard! Dismantling the Delica 4 is easy. Putting it back together...well, not so much. Spyderco sells those parts kits because so many people screwed up their knives putting them back together wrong. The liners are nested into recesses molded into the FRN scales, so making wooden scales won't be easy.

If you are determined to go ahead with this, there is a Delica Lego thread on the factory forum with detailed instructions on how to take the knife apart and put it back together without wrecking it. I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Edit to add: Here you go. http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30875

it can be done, just watch how you take it apart, but if it doesn't have screws then it cannot be take apart because it is riveted together. good luck! and if you do make the handles post a picture!

it looks like it wouuld be too hard to make wooden scales with the liners inside. and I don't think my tools are precise enough to get the holes right. I think ill get a fixed blade like one of those nice damascus mules to make scales for
