Delica/Endura with Choil & Wire clip

Look, it's already been said, you said it, I said, we all said. They have model after model that has Wire Clip and Choil. I just ordered a Caly 3 which is basically a decked out Delica 4.

It's the only two options the majority of everyone will agree on. We gotta get past this hump before we ask for any other change to the highest volume model.

Just do it already.

Vote yes, lets get this petition on it's way.

The new Manix 2 FRN is what you'd get if an Endura and a Delica had a child.

It has a choil and a wire clip too.

I don't think the delica and endura need a choil. They have made it this long without and for a good reason. They have plenty of other models with a choil.

I'm indifferent about the clip, but I think the Delica's cutting edge relative to the overall length is too short as is. Adding a choil that eats cutting edge would be the last thing I'd want to see.

Though I like choils I think it is too radical of a change to even consider making to their bread & butter models. As far as the clip goes, I'm happy with either.

Been brought up a number of times and shot down a number of times because there are plenty of Spydercos with those features and not everyone likes them.

Admittedly I'm in the camp that doesn't want those changes. In particular I wish Spyderco would drop choils from all knives above Dragonfly size and below Military size.

The thing is, not everyone likes a 50/50 choil on their knives. A lot of people actually prefer it not be there. What you might like is the Spyderco R2, still available in some places.

I like choil and no choil knives. There should be variety, and these have gone this long without, so I say leave it alone. I am however a very strong supporter of wire clips only, but that is just for me and I know some who don't like them.

Why to turn the highest volume models into low volume ones by adding a choil and a wire clip? ;)

I agree with what's been said earlier. I like these knives as they are without the choil.

I wouldn't mind a wire clip on these models, but there is no reason to add a choil and make it essentially a different design. I like a well done choil as much as the next guy, but leave the Delica and Endura as-is!

Guys I'm saddened. All alone here. I have seen so many times people want the choil. Just so every knows, the choil is added without cutting into the blade length, it's actualy carved out right there in the middle, there is plenty of room, and it's been done by a few custom guys so I know it's possible. That's neither here nor there, I guess all the supporters I have seen on the net are gone now, or you guys are flip floppers!!!!

Your post answers your own question...They already have plenty of models with a wire clip and a choil. Why would the change the high volume models to be just like the others that dont sell as well? They have to have different features a models to appeal to more buyers. Simple business logic.

Sucks to be you today. :p There's a market for knives with those features and Spyderco makes knives for that market. But there's also a much larger market for knives without them and those are the folks to whom the Delica and Endura are meant to appeal.

Sal already addressed this in a previous thread I started:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1165563-Will-there-ever-be-a-Delica-5?highlight=delica

On the suggestions; As Deacon mentioned, we pobably wouldn't add a 50/50 finger choil for the reasons mentioned. The 3" blade length conforms to many size limitations legally. To make it longer would make it illegal in many places. The handle is the length it is for functional reasons. the sharp point was too often broken by the market working this model. Much less of a problem now. Easy enough to grind down to a sharp point. Wire clips are best at tip up, 4 way is preferred by our customers. We watch and listen.

I imagine we'll make a Delica5 when we have enough changes to improve the model and still stay within the demographic market the Delica serves. A few personal preferences are not enough to retoool and change the basic design.

personally I would like a choil option and wire clip on the delica, here where I live the Caly 3 costs 1.5 times more so it's not really an option. Maybe Spyderco could make a sprint run to test the market reaction, I would definitely buy one.

I will say that I think if you made the changes, and kept the exposure and volume of the Delica and Endura the same it would probably sell the same. I don't think the vast majority of Delica and Endura buyers are knife nuts like us. The vast majority of them have one good knife and that is it. I think the reason they sell so good is they are cheap and a lot easier to find. Some big sporting goods stores in my area may only sell one Spyderco, and it will be the Delica. A lot of casual buyers may see it, perceive it to be a quality item from checking it out, and think that because it costs twice as much as a Gerber right next to it, it has to be better. I think that is where the real sales come from. So in reality, if the changes were made, it would be more like a Caly 3 LW to us, but for the casual knife buyer they wouldn't even know the difference.

I dont want to see a choil or wire clip on either one, they look and perform great the way they are. The choil isnt necessary and I think it would take away from the aesthetics and the wire clip isnt my favorite looking thing either. This is coming from a guy who could carry an 3oz knife then an 8oz knife and not notice the difference in pocket, so weight saving is not something I care for since I prefer a very sturdy and robust knife. Like others have said there are plenty of spydies with choils, I dont mind them but I dont think it would look very appealing to put a choil on a knife that didnt previously have one, same with a wire clip, especially when the delica and endura arent lacking function in any way.
