Has anybody heard anything about the Delica joining the ranks of Blurple S110V offerings? Sure would be nice...

Given that they only just now managed to get an American steel into their Japanese OEM, I think we'll have a long wait if we see it at all.

All of the S110V offerings are the American made knives, i.e. PM2, Native 5, Manix 2, as far as I'm aware. I doubt they'd throw S110V on a non-American mid-ranged knife. I'm pretty sure the S110V models of S30V/S35VN knives are the similar "upgraded steel" idea as using Superblue and then ZDP-189 on their VG-10 knives.

Not to derail your thread, but I'd be happier with a screwed-constructed caly3 in Hap40 rather than a Delica in S110V. (just my 2 cents)

Roger that, just wouldnt be happier with the price. I bet that knife would literally be over double the price of a Delica.

I'm sure more knowledgable folks will chime in here, but my understanding is that the Japanese makers have a commitment to only using Japanese made steels. So you will never see a Seki knife made with S110V, or any other US made steel. Personally, I feel that part of the charm of the Japanese Spydercos is the interesting and often unusual steels they choose, especially for the Sprint versions. Seki has a long and storied blade making tradition and I'm fascinated to see the current iterations--I own a nearly 100 year old Japanese katana (traditional sword). It's razor sharp and bright as the day it was made...

There are so many interesting Japanese steels that we have never tried. Why would we ship S110V there? The Japanese do not seem to like to export steel so having Japanese made Spydies is our chance to try these steels.

^This.
Just an example is HAP40. I've never heard of that before a few months ago but it has some excellent properties.

Spyderco has enough variety in their different models and country of manufacter that I don't mind only having S110 available in the US blades. The Japanese can make a great lock back so its sort of like getting a unique steel that is only available from that country, with a solid, well executed lock all with the quality we've come to expect that is Spyderco.

With all that said I should add that if a G10 S110V Delica were to come to fruition that I would certainly buy one. ;)

I can be wrong but I don't think Japan manufactures like to work with American steel . So it's highly unlikely .

Good points regarding using US steel in Japanese manufactured knives. One can but dream though ;)

Sal has
Confirmed some upcoming Japan models with S30V. The makers are learning to work with it. This idea sounds great but it still HIGHLY unlikely I'd imagine.

+1

The upcoming sprint ATR is going to be in S30V. So, while its possible we might see further Japanese produced Spydies in American steel(s) its, at the very least, going to take a while and be expensive.

I'm with you though, Steve...there are a couple Japanese Spydercos I'm dreaming of in S110v. Namely, a blue G10 Police 3 and Kiwi 4. I'm definitely not holding my breath. It's taking long enough for the stuff already in the confirmed/slated for production queue.

Ergh, I never even considered a Blurple Police 3. That would be a lust item for sure.

As I think about this, for me, it is more about the G10 than a particular steel. I have a WTB ad in the exchange for one of the last run in foliage green G10...and no, I'm not holding my breath ;)

Whatever happened to talks of the powernoodle blue G10 slab Seki Sprints in SG2? I remember SG2 ended up being priced out of reason, but I wonder why discussion of an alternative steel faded out??
