Delica grinding when opening

Posted this over at the Spyderco forum also. Got a new Delica, and it has a bit of grinding right when the blade is opened. I have tried everything to get rid of the grinding feeling, toothpaste, washing in water, oiling but it still happens. Would this bother you? Any other ideas to smooth it out?

It's the lock bar interface most likely.
Give it time to wear smooth and break in would be my advice.

I have three lock backs, and they all felt a little gritty when new. It went away with use.

Try holding the lock bar all the way open (pressing on the button) and rotate the blade. Does it still grind? If it does, there is something in the pivot, perhaps a burr or just junk of some sort. After that, press on the lock bar near the tang that raises up as you rotate the blade open. Does it grind then? If so, the tang as a rough spot, or perhaps the lock bar as well. This will smooth out.

Blow out the pivot with compressed air, and put a small drop of oil on each side of the pivot. Use it for 2 weeks and see if the grit is still there.

I'm pretty sure there's something going on between the Tang and lockbar interface causing the rough feeling. It only occurs just when I open the blade and is smooth the rest of the way. I will use it and see if it wears in.

^yep. ill bet the lockbar interface is rough on the blade as it spins under pressure and past the backlock flat to round part. it will wear down over time but not weeks of use, much longer til it smooths and breaks in.

How do you know?

Did you try this ↑↑

Yes, no grind when the lockbar is depressed.

Thanks for confirming that
If the knife is ok otherwise, I'd fix it myself, having done so with several, but not a back lock. But if you're not comfortable with that, send it in.
BTW, it would bug me too.

The rough feeling seems to have gotten a little better. It's really only noticeable if you open the knife slowly. Would you guys just live with it and see if it breaks in?

My Chaparral was grinding like a mofo when it was new. I did everything possible, short of disassembling it to get it to run smooth. It was terrible. I noticed a groove showing on the tang where the lock was rubbing on it. I sat with the knife holding the blade in one hand and the handle in the other and "worked" it back and forth about 200 times (estimated) and the grinding finally went away. It is smooth now. I think that there was a piece of something between the tang and the lock.

Well I did this a few hundred times and the grinding seems to have mostly gone away. I don't even notice it unless I slowly open the blade and feel for it. I think it will probably go away in the future. I'm not going to send it in as I don't really think it is an issue.

Good man!
