Delica lock question

Hi, I am a long-time Spyderco fan, I have owned and used and sold and traded a lot of Spydercos. I have owned both the pinned version of the Delica as well as previous Delica 4s.
But, I found myself without one recently and had an Amazon Gift Card, ergo I just rec'd a new Delica 4 ffg (sold by Amazon).
All that to say, this isn't my first Spyderco, let alone my first knife, and I am a huge Spyderco fan.

So, when I open the knife, the lockbar or 'rocker arm', remains raised above the handle scales, i.e, not flush. There is a little bit of play as I press downward on the blade, it feels like it moves downward and a little bit forward and then it feels like it clicks into place. The lockup feels solid after that.

Does this sound like a defect?
I have read other threads on back lock concerns and have seen Sal chime in talking about locks "settling in"?
I hate to go through the trouble of sending it in for warranty, just to have it returned and told "it is within acceptable limits".
None of my other lockback knives, Spyderco or other brands do this.
Below are pics, first, right after opening and second, after putting a little pressure on the blade.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I got mine from the spydercostore.com and it's the same way. My wife's delica 4 is the same way. It's from knife center.

I wouldn't worry about it. Use it , love it! It's a great edc blade!!

Mine was like that.. After opening/closing it a ton of times all is fine.. It will nest closed after a while.. John

There could also be lint/debris preventing the lockbar from settling all the way down, but if you can make it go all the way down with coercion it probably just needs a little break in time.

Whew! That makes me feel a lot better, thanks all!
I lost my native this summer while kayaking and have been itching to get something 3 inch-ish back in the rotation.

I have never had a Spyderco with that problem. It is not normal, but is most likely a result of over tight tolerances, I believe. If you flick the knife open with your wrist, hard, will the lock bar seat all the way? If so, the knife simply needs to be broken in. I have had this happen with other manufacturers and with a very hard snap they would seat. The one time it would not seat I had to send it back to the manufacture as it was a defect and the lock was not secure.
Your Delica should lock up all the way, as all of mine do.

No, you are right, it doesn't seem normal, based on my previous experience with Spydies. But the lock up does feel secure, and the fact that putting pressure toward the edge direction, i.e. the direction one would push to close the knife, and then the lock seats correctly, does make me think it is some sort of "seating in" or "wearing in" issue.
I'll keep working at it, my wife is going to really love the incessant "clicking" ;)

If it doesn't clear up most riki tik then you need to send it to Spyderco for evaluation.

My gray Delica FFG did exactly that. Didn't hurt anything. It is the knife that made me quit buying knives. I lost it a couple of weeks ago on a business trip. I plan to replace it

One of my Delica 4 models does this. Also a recently purchased Native Lightweight. It looks like a tiny imperfection in the fit of the locking bar to the notch in the blade. After opening and closing many times, it gets better. I hardly notice it any more.

(And, yeah, my wife has made negative comments about the clicking sound.)

Well, just to update, since Amazon had free return shipping, I returned it. I have no less than four other back lock spydies currently and none have been like that. I have also previously owned multiple delicas and enduras of varying generations at one time or another and none have ever been like that. I guess I will suppress this itch for the moment and put something else I already own into the rotation.
Thanks all, for your thoughts.
Phil
