Delica or Endura with Caged Ball Lock

I was just wondering if anyone had some insider info as to when (if ever) we may see these knives. I love the Axis lock and I'm coming from having lock backs my whole life. I really like the Delica and Endura, but really don't want to go back to the other lock.

Has anyone heard of Spyderco producing the Delica or Endura with a caged ball lock? Right now I'm rocking the mini grip, mainly because of the lock. But if Spyderco made those two with their axis similar lock I'd snatch them up in a minute.

I haven't heard of a Delica nor an Endura sporting the CBBL.

A different lock might compromise the design too much. The Delica and Endura were designed for a mid-lock and their slim, ambidextrous design makes them very popular. A CBBL might just require too much tinkering to the design and not generate enough profit in return.

Very true, I guess it probably wouldn't be an Endura or Delica anymore after they switched the lock. I really love those knives, but the CBBL is so appealing to me over the lock back.

I think the knives would have to be a lot bigger to accommodate a CBBL.

So in essence it would probably defeat the purpose of the slim compact design of the delica/endura in the first place. It would probably end up the size of the Manix in thickness and width. Good points here, the more I think about it the more I may just pick up a delica. Lock isn't a giant deal as I've used lock backs my whole life anyways. Probably a good time to buy anyways since they just came out with the limited FFG models.

It might work on the stretch, given the height of the handle. The blade would have to pivot a little lower to accommodate the lockup on the CBBL.

Plus the Delica and Endura would lose the four-way clip with the BBL. As they are, they are super nice and thin, light with grippy scales and a four-way clip for under $60. Not sure what else we would want from those two great knives or from a general EDC.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the feedback. I think I will probably pick up a Delica... maybe even an Endura too.

One other thing though...

They have the limited FFG models out in both of these. Would you recommend the FFG in the Delica and a regular saber flat in the Endura? My thinking behind this is that the Delica would be used for more delicate (easy) cutting tasks and the Endura for harder ones... I know the ffg models blades are thinner and I guess I would just be a bit worried doing heavy things with the ffg Endura. Am I way off in my thinking? I'm not a real knowledgeable guy when it comes to knifes so I figured I'd ask.

having ffg and saber ground blades, I much much prefer ffg. I have yet to break one. However I dont use them as pry bars.

You won't regret it.

That sounds reasonable. In fact, I was thinking the same exact thing. However, I'm probably going to end up getting FFGs of both since I don't think I'm ever going to do anything that's going to snap a blade.

I got one of the brown FFG Endura's. It's a great knife for $58.00!

I guess it depends on what you mean by heavier tasks.

I have a FFG Delica and a SG Endura for identical reasons. The Delica is what I use for everyday chores while the Endura is reserved for defensive applications. I typically prefer a thicker blade for that use.

Having said that, Michael Janich, the man behind Martial Blade Concepts, does seem to like FFGs for his defensive blades.

That is the setup I was thinking... with "heavier" meant more as self defense, thicker cutting tasks, etc. Ha, I did just purchase a blue FFG Delica on eBay so I'm committed on the Delica side. Now I just have to decide on the Endura. If I did have an emergency or sometime when I absolutely had nothing else to pry something open... I'd probably use the Endura and I'd want the extra strength. Otherwise, I'd never and have never used a blade for prying.

Thanks for the input everyone, it is really appreciated.

If it is literally an emergency and you break the tip off the knife then so be it. Most likely you would still have 3/4 of the blade left to cut with so it would still be somewhat functional. I like the FFG and I only plan on cutting with my knives. If breaking one means saving my life somehow then it is going to get used. I usually carry multiple knives so it wouldn't be a huge deal other than being out $60. I personally would go with the one you want and for me that is the better cutter which is the FFG model.

Yah exactly, I wouldn't be too pissed if I broke a blade in a survival situation as my life > $60. I like hearing what more experienced members carry as it will help me in deciding.

Thanks for the input.
