I've been looking at pulling the trigger on a delica and I need to know the difference between the classification between a delica and a delica 4? What's the difference between the the two?
Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated.

The only delica you're going to find for sale new by dealer is the generation 4.

Get a Delica 4 w FFG blade in the color you like best and enjoy one of the best EDC blades ever made.

There's the Delica 4 in full flat grind, and the saber grind version. The FFG version is available in different colors, and is a much better slicer. I have one in blue, and it's a great EDC knife.

I have a grey delica 4 as my work EDC and use it to open boxes and other stuff thst would make peoples eyes pop out if I whipped out a para

When I first got I to this hobby a year ago and went on a budget knife buying frenzy I dismissed the Delica. A forum member Rat Finkelstein pointed out how good the Delica was and I thought he was crazy. Now...I couldn't imagine a better EDC cutting tool and couldn't imagine not owning one.

Welcome to the forum! I don't think anyone has directly answered your question. The Delica is one of Spyderco's most popular models and has gone through several revisions over the years as Sal & Co have refined it. The original's FRN handle came with the pocket clip molded to it (ie, it was part of the handle), and wasn't a metal clip attached to the handle. I don't recall what the Gen 2 looks like but the Gen 3 basically looks like the Salt 1 but with a pointier blade tip and slightly smaller Spyder hole. The current model is the Gen 4 which is the only one you're likely to find new for sale, and as previously mentioned, is now available with the regular or full flat grind blade. I've got a 1st Gen fully serrated model with AUS 8 blade steel, a Salt 1 and a 4th Gen with plain Edge VG10.

EDIT: Sorry for the poor pic quality but from the top it shows the Pacific Salt, Salt 1, Delica 4, Delica 1, etc.

As NaturalMystic metioned, the original Delica (which we refer to as the Delica 1, but Spyderco never labeled as such) had an unlined FRN handle with a built-in FRN clip.

The Delica 2 (called that by Spyderco as well as by enthusiasts) was the original all stainless Delica

The Delica 3 (called that by enthusiasts, but just called the Delica Lightweight by Spyderco) had an unlined FRN handle with a barrel bolt syle metal clip.

The Delica 4 (called that by Spyderco as well as by enthusiasts) encompasses all of the current FRN with nested steel liner versions, as well as the current all stainless version and the new titanium/VG-10 damascus version.

Again, as has been noted, the Delica 4 has been in production for nearly ten years so, (aside from the bolstered damascus and jigged bone Sprints) it's the only one you're likely to find on dealer shelves.

That's right deacon, I forgot! The Delica 2 was the stainless version. Thanks for the reminder! I had FRN on my mind and completely forgot about the SS models.
