I tried to do a search on this, but the search engine kept failing.

I own a Delica with a black-coated blade, numbered 081V. I will soon own another Delica with a black-coated blade, which I understand is not numbered. The presence of an unnumbered blade suggests to me that a Delica with a black-coated blade is or was a production item at one time. What is the story behind these Delicas?

Thanks,

Matthew

The number means that originally came from a member of the Spyderco Collectors Club. There are a limited number of collectors, I believe it is capped at arround 250.

The "v" stands for variation. Each member is commited to buying one of each model when it is release. But when a variation of an existing model is released (black blade, CF handle, etc) the member has the option to purchase or not.

black bladed delicas are in the market now, I think - I've seen them being offered recently.

That's kind of what I thought too, but the 2004 catalog doesn't mention it as an option. Perhaps it is a variant run, as suggested by yog, with the first 250 or so being numbered.

I guess the next question I have to ask myself is "use or not use?" :)

I think I need to send an e-mail to Spyderco's customer service...

And that is confirmed by Joyce. Thanks all!
