Delica, Regular or Emerson Opener?

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The Spyderco Emerson openers work very well. I think it's worth it.

I like mine in my back pocket, it wave's better IMO. It will also open beer bottles.

Worth the $? Yup. I've managed to open my CQC-10 (Emerson with a 'wave') on just about anything I can get the hook onto. I love it. The Delica, at a lighter weight, would be a better EDC, I would think.

thx - cpr

The Emerson opener is nice but sometimes I find that if my pants are kind of tight fitting then sometimes it deploys the blade when you don't want it to. But on the plus side it does open beer bottles and is fun to play with.

+1 for the wave, I edc my D4 w/ a wave and I love it, it can do some damage to the pockets if your not careful, but it's not a big deal.

-also, the wave makes a great bottle opener too!

Is the emerson opener worth the extra dough?

That's up to the individual.

Lot's of folks find it cool or like the instant open for SD reasons. I've no problem with either reason for liking the wave. I just do not share it.

As for me, it is not worth it. I only care that the Delica can be opened and closed one handed, has a great blade design in a thin package, has great ergos, and that the VG10 steel is great. Fast opening has no value to me.

It's a personal preference thing.

I have a waved one and I like it.

It has absolutely no practical value to me, (I'd hate to use it in self-defense), but it's convenient and cool.

I like it. I like that it's there. And if I don't need it, I don't have to use it.

Exactly! I'd rather have the option! If one doesn't want to "wave" the knife, it is very simple to remove from a pocket without "waving," not to mention, one can always carry it "tip-down" to avoid ever inadvertantly "waving" it.;)

+1 I thought the wave was a great idea, but after owning one for a while I found it next to useless and it has the side effect of tearing up the corner of my pocket. I'm seriously considering taking the dremel to it.
