In the break room at work today, saw a guy with a beat up Spydie in his pocket. I asked to see it and he tossed it on the table. It was a SE Delica 3, and it was so neglected that it would have made a butter knife look like a straight razor. Clip was beat to snot with about half of the finish scraped off.

I was checking it out and telling him that I had been wanting to get an SE Delica and he said "Tell ya what, 10 bucks and that one is yours." I think I left flames on the floor while getting to my wallet! :)

Got it home tonight and started soaking the clip in nail polish remover to loosen up the rest of the paint while I slaved away on the Sharpmaker. I brought the serrations back eventually, but the little non-serrated part at the end is going to take some more rehab.

All in all, not a bad way to get rid of 10 bucks!

You did well. Spend just 10 bucks, saved a Spydie, got a good knife. :D

I can't do anything for that little part of blade on any of my fully serrated knives. I eventually just give up on it.

I can't tell if it was originally sharpened on both sides or not. I'm working on kind of a chisel grind on it. I'm doing about 5 strokes on the sharp side and 1 on the other side to knock the burr off. Just until I get _some_ kind of an edge on it.

Dang, now I wish I had taken some pics before I started so that I could do a "before and after" post. Maybe on my next project.

I think that all Spyderco serrated knives originally sharpened on one side like chisel grind.
it is sad that you did not take pictures before you start working on this knife.

You know, think of the good kharma you would earn if you rehabbed the knife and gave it back to the guy. Just a thought.

I offered to let him use it to cut something open, but he wouldn't use it. As far as giving it back....karma is just going to have to sit this one out. :D

Will Spyderco sharpen it? might be the easy way to get a shaver. Then your friend will be sorry.

Of course they will. Would be a great way to get a factory edge on it without spending hours flailing away at the rods.

I am EDC it at work in my right pocket, with an Endura CE in my left. It makes quick work of tape, twine, cardboard, plastic bands, etc. I'm thinking of sending it to the fine folks at Spyderco for sharpening, because most of the points on the serrations are rounded off from improper sharpening by the previous owner. It cuts like a champ despite that handicap :)

I'm still convinced that it was the best 10 bucks I've spent in quite a while.

A good way to clean those out is a few blasts with WD40 in the handle, soap and water, and a GOOD soaking of rubbing alcohol to displace all the water to prevent rust. One drop of oil on top of the blade where the lock meets it and 10 openings later you have a clean, well operating Spydie.

Just the way I do it...
