I got a gift card to a local sports store, they don't have much but they do have a delica SE, and a black leek PE. I own knives from both companies, but have never delt with these 2 models. Any input would help. Thanks

Go handle them both, whichever one fits you better is the right choice.....

(or do the easy thing and get both ;) )

personally, i'd go for the Delica, i've had a Leek, it's a nice knife, but the Delica fits my needs better

either one is nice, the Delica has better steel though....

This is one of those decisions that come down to personal preference IMO. These are both great designs. I personally prefer the Delica overall, but not by much. Do you know which Delica this is (D1, 2, 3 or 4)?

Delica can handle much heavier cutting and "prying" (yeah I know). The leek is more delicate. Hey wait a minute.......

I would go with the SE Delica since I work round tougher stuff like cardboard, drywall, etc.

The Leek is slimmer and smaller when closed for a similarly sized blade, so if discrete EDC is important to you, then I'd go with that. It also opens lightning fast with the flipper. The frame lock is reliable and makes it very easy to close one handed.

The Delica is also fairly small/light, but is much wider and somewhat deeper when closed. It uses a lockback which is harder to close one handed and the manual opening is slower. That said the blade is more robust and is made from VG-10 steel which is FAR more desirable than 440A (even though the leek is coated, it is probably still 440A- to get premium steel in a Leek, you need to upgrade to the S30-V or ZDP model which are more expensive). The handles are also much "grippier" and more ergonomic for hard use.

Overall, I'd say the leek is a knife with great modern features and design that has more of a "slickness" value, but the Delica is more of a knife that is meant to be used. Both have value and advantages over the other in different areas.

I have some versions of both and they are my favorite moderately priced models from both respective companies.

I would go with the Delica SE and then trade it for a PE.

I would not consider the Leek, and I would not keep a serrated knife.

I'd have to say go handle them both.

I have a Leek (regular one) and I like it, but no experience with Delica (though I don't like the looks of it).

I have a framelock 440a leek, g-10 s30v, and a delica; of the three, I prefer the g-10 Leek. It's very grippy, fits my hand better, is nimble to handle (especially one-handed) and easy to manipulate for those small, light duty cutting tasks- it is the knife most likely to be in hand while fishing. The liner lock on the g-10 Leek seems secure enough for light duty stuff. I find the framelock version of the Leek to be a bit slippery, harder to grip. The Delica is a great little knife as well, wider flat-ground blade, great steel (I like vg-10, mine came razor sharp), a bit harder to close one-handed but with a bit of practice can be done.

It really is a tough call- if it is between a standard Leek and a serrated Delica, I'd probably opt for the Leek. Ask if they can order other models- if so throw a few extra $$ in and grab a G-10 Leek, its a great light duty edc.

SE Delica because I have many other knives well in the 100+ dollor range, but this knife ends up in my pocket just as much as the rest. Sweet knife the delica 4 has liners and a stronger tip, this ='s standing up to beatings. Plus I use the spyder hole top part to open cans of paint all the time (I own and operate a bodyshop). I do have PE, but SE is just as fine. Believe me go Delica 4 but PE if you have a choice. If not still get the SE you will carry it a lot.

thanks for your help everyone, I decided to go with both. AO on the leek is sweet, never owned a knife with AO. The delica will definately be getting a good work out. Either way neither one will replace my 710 as my edc, but I really don't know what could get it out of my pocket.

Good call going with both. The AO coolness factor sort of wears off after about a year, but the leek has been my EDC for some time now and lacks nothing from my point of view, because I don't need a tank of a knife. When I need something for real nasty work (cutting up catfish/thick cardboard), I use either my Spec Bump or my serrated Seagal.

Enjoy the knives!
