Hi ...

I have a Delica PE FRN and will shortly buy a Sharpmaker 204 to complement it.

What is the angle I should be using for the Delica..is it 40 or 30 degrees ?

Also, do you have any other tips, tricks or advice for getting a perfect edge ?

Thanks for your help with this.

Tardis :)

I believe that 40 is what the knife's original angle is. If you have a lot of patience, 30 is nice, too.

Tips:

1. When using the edges of the Sharpmaker hones, stop when the tip of the knife reaches the edge.

2. It's better to use less force than more force. Force equal to the weight of the blade is all you need.

3. Practice on other knives first and often. Your Delica will delight in your skills and reward you with a crisp, ultra-sharp edge.

Make sure to keep even strokes.

Never let the tip of the blade just slide off the stones. This will round off the tip and not get it very sharp.

3-5lbs of pressure is more than enough, with your final strokes being about the weight of the blade alone. I freehand the final strokes, and it works wonderfully.

Thank you for your replies and help....I'm going to need it I reckon. I'll be getting the 204 in a couple of weeks. Practice makes perfect I guess.

The Sharpmaker is set at 40 degrees then ?

It is set at both 30 and 40.

40 intended for touch-ups and 30 for re-profiling.
