Just got a delica that is very stiff out of box a purple ffg one. Will it get smoother with opening and closings and just time?

It will break in, I gave mine a shot of balistol and cleaned it up a bit.

Alright man thanks I figured it would but it's for my gf so I wanted to double check, I got a se endura and she got a ffg delica. My endura is a tad stuff but hers is a lot more. I'll give it a few days to wear in

Ya mine was very stiff at first. Next time your watching a show or movie just sit there and open and close the knife repeatedly. After I did this a couple times it is much better now. I ended up gifting it to my little brother as it just wasn't for me but he loves it. Great little knife.

Yes. The lock mechanism is strong. The blade tang scrapes against the lock bar. They will smooth out over time. You can make sure the pivot isn't too tight and try some oil. The best thing is to give it time and use.

Oil it till it smoothes out, she will love it. It'll be more than a couple days though.

Just chiming in with the rest of the guys, my delica came really stiff but has smoothed out very nicely :)

I wouldn't go nuts oiling it, that is going to attract more crap into the pivot area over time. Have you tried adjusting the pivot screw?

Just keep opening and closing it so that the metal surfaces have a chance to mate up. If it feels gritty, open and close it under warm running water until most of the grittiness goes away. I also wouldn't worry too much about oiling it excessively, as this will likely just attract more gunk into the pivot.

Yeah, one drop on each side and some repetitions will work wonders. Any more and you'll end up gumming up the pivot area, and it won't be as smooth.

I got my Delica last October and had the same issue, I oiled it a little bit and loosened the pivot screw and then just opened and closed it as much as I could until I got it to open how I wanted, then I was able to tighten it again and now it works great. Took me a couple of weeks.

I much prefer a stiff knife and have it loosen up after time as opposed to a loosey goosey knife out of the box.

Just went through this with a new endura. I agree with others, loosen pivot wash in hot water, blow dry, little or no oil, work it. It'll loosen enough that you may need/want to tighten pivot back up.
