Delica: VG-10 or ATS-55?

I was going to order a Delica from newgraham.com in a few days and just noticed that they list the Delica as having an ATS-55 blade. However, on Spyderco's website it is listed as being made out of VG-10 steel. The ATS-55 and VG-10 are listed as having hardnesses of 59-60 and 60-62 respectively. How come this knife is made with different types of steel? Is there anything else different between the two knives?

If the only difference is the steel it seems like I should try to get a VG-10 Delica since it has a stronger blade but New Graham appears to have the best prices. Does it make that much of a difference which one I get?

Thanks in advance for all help!

I would ask them to clarify. I would have thought that these would have long been discontinued.

I would only get the VG-10. It is a much improved steel over ATS-55.

Russell92: No worries. This is a mistake on the New Graham site. I told them about it a while back and thought it would have been corrected by now, but they must have forgotten. To answer your question, the Delicas they are selling are the latest VG-10 model.

The VG-10 is a newer model and that steel is better than ATS-55.

I had the same question a few months ago when I was going to order an Endura from New Graham. Timlara is right -- they sell VG-10 and the site is mistaken.

ATS-55 is not such a bad steel either. I think it's much underrated, I have a few ATS-55 Spydies and I am very pleased of them. I must state that I also have VG-10 ones, so I can make a comparison.

I've noticed, like others said above, that New Graham doesn't always update the site with the new steel type. The two times that I've ordered such a knife from them, I've just mentioned in the "notes" section of the order form that I wanted the new steel. It's never been an issue.
