Delica vs Dozier

I currently have a Ka Bar Dozier with the thumb notch, but keep thinking of picking up the Spyderco Delica. I really like the Dozier, but sometimes it is difficult to get a purchase on to open one handed with not much blade exposed for the thumb notch.

My question... is the Delica worth it? I could purchase 4 Doziers for the price of one Delica. Who has owned both and can comment on what they would do if given the choice again.

Maybe get a hole opening version of dozier?

I have owned both the Delica and the Dozier. The Delica is no doubt a higher quality knife that uses better materials, but in my opinion it is not worth the price. In my opinion there is no one thing the Delica does better than other knives. Take for example the Kershaw Skyline. It is very similar in size to the Delica. It's the same weight. It uses a steel that has similar edge retention. And it's just over half the price. In my opinion the G10 of the Skyline imparts the knife with a higher quality feeling than the FRN of the Delica. The Delica is by no means a bad knife, but in my opinion it doesn't offer any unique features that justify its high price compared to other options.

You cant go wrong with the Delica. Its a great little knife.
As for whether a quality knife is worth the asking price; a knife is worth, what customers want to shell out for it.

Ive had a bunch of Delicas. A couple of days ago, I gave a mint VG10 to a buddy and currently own a CruWear and a V-Toku2.

I have both, but I won’t beat on the Delica like I beat on the Dozier, in fact, the Dozier impressed me so much at the price point, I gifted one each to my 2 sons, and they are extremely hard on them. The Delica is a great knife, worth the price, but in my opinion does not offer value like the Dozier.

Delica worth it? Absolutely. Nothing wrong with the Dozier, it's certainly made well enough, but the Delica is in a different class.
I much prefer VG-10 to Aus8, and to me the steel upgrade alone is worth the price.

The Delica 4 also comes in full flat grind which makes it an excellent slicer, and the blade profile is more useful in everyday use. I understand that's a subjective point however.

As far as opening goes, the Spydie hole is probably the most comfortable and easy to open for a non-flipper. I vastly prefer it to a thumb stud and its the main reason I buy Spyderco over other brands.

I've owned a lot of modern folders over the years, but none have really been carried much since I've owned the Delica, including the Dozier.

As Sergeua Sergeua said, there is a Dozier with the hole opening.

I also own both knives. I think the Delica 4 is worth the price upgrade too. I find the Delica quite comfortable in hand and I wear a XL/2XL. The Endela is even more comfortable.

If you are worried about the cost, you could always try the Sypderco Byrd line. Most are +/- $30 and they have several different size knives. Maybe a Harrier 2?

I think where you are on your knife journey should dictate what you get. If your mindset is locked into loving lockbacks that are thin and easy to pocket and are at the height of value relative to quality. The Delica would be awesome to add to your rotation.

It's probably 35% better than the Dozier in overall ease of opening, handle ergo and quality, also subjectively, most knives really aren't that much better or worse for regular everyday cutting of things.

Are you able to go handle one. For me, I'm 7 years into finding bladeforums and having an FRN Spyderco in my now small edc rotation is a non negotiable. I've had several Doziers that I casually gave away to friends and would easily get another one over the next new greatest and latest knife design.

I'm a giant fan of thin, easy to pocket lockback folders though. There are lots of flipper models in the price range of the Delica that can be had these days. One of my main edcs is a Zinker Dogtooth. It runs maybe $130. But there are some great brands doing $80 flippers on D2, VG10 and Sandvik. The Kershaw Dividend in m390 kinda like a S35vn is like 85 bucks!

The Spyderco Delica holds a special place in my covetous knife-hoarding heart, and is one of the few designs that *still* tempts me into buying variants. I currently own three: damascus/ti FFG, blue FRN FFG, and a classic black FRN saber grind. Such a good EDC folder, IMO.

The Spydie Hole will swallow your Soul...
But, that's not necessarily a bad thing, Lol
-All joking aside, the Delica is a Very popular and trusted knife, offering better steel and different variants  ...and, as you already know, the Dozier
is an award winning knife, for good reason, too.
As mentioned, the Spyderco 'economy' Byrd knives are an option, as well...Very well made, IMO..
A Meadowlark, (1or 2) perhaps?
-Or even a 'pre-owned' (loved) Delica could / would be a viable option.
Good Luck, BTB

The Spyderco Delica holds a special place in my covetous knife-hoarding heart...
:D - I got a good chuckle from this.

OP here...I fell to your peer pressure and ordered a Delica. Should arrive tomorrow (Amazon is crazy, lol). I will report back with my thoughts. I figured if it did not work out for me, I should not have any problem selling it to someone. Thanks for all of your opinions and insights!

The Delica is an excellent knife.
I have one in Hap40 that has seen lots of use.
I’m sure you will enjoy yours but I have a Kabar Dozier also and for the price it really can’t be beat but the Dozier competes more with the Bugout than the Delica.

The form and styling of the Dozier is more similar to the Bugout imo.
