Big part is preference. I have owned both and ended up selling my Native. The native has a high quality (s35v) steel that can be difficult to sharpen. The native also has a finger choil which is my preference when it comes to spydercos. The delica is a great lightweight edc folder. The vg10 steel is easy to sharpen and will take a razor edge. I personally would go with the spyderco delica. Another problem I had with my native was stiffness in the lock compared to the delica but that may just be in my case. I will say that for quality, price and usability you can't go wrong with either. I just like my delica in that blade length category.

6 of one, half dozen of another.

The HAP40 Delica is coming out 'soon'.

The S90V Native 5 2015 Forum is out now and for $95 using the discount code.

I have several Delicas and Natives, including the 2015 Forum, so I'm waiting on the HAP40 Delica.

But, I think you like the leaf blades more, so get the Native 5 2015 Forum.

I don't care for the Native because of the absence of a thumb ramp and positive traction on top of the blade. The absence of a choil on the Delica is somewhat bothersome, but of the two I prefer the Delica. I would look for a Zdp-189 version if you want something a little more high speed and that better compares with the s35vn of the Native, though Vg-10 is by no means a slouch

I usually choose a knife with a choil, but I find the new Native handle less comfortable than the Delica. If I were choosing between these two in frn with vg-10, then I would choose a Delica.

I think I'm gonna go with a Delica. Even though I'm really digging a choil on my other two knives I feel like I will miss the thumb ramp/blade shape and I'm thinking maybe every Spyderco owner should have a Delica.

The Native 5 Lightweight has become my "work knife" - the one I use the most.

I might carry a Caly 3 to the mall, but I probably won't use it.

Delicas are a great knife. I just prefer a choil.

The Native is a cool knife, a lot of people say it's an evolution to the Delica. The next step up. I think I'm learning for myself and this maybe you too but at some point there is no "next step up." It's pointless when a knife like the Delica is so purpose built, so evolved and in some ways so raw. Out of all the knives that I've tried at this point over a 100 maybe. So far the Rough Rider Half Whittler, Kershaw Blur and Delica are the only knives that I will grab from my knife drawer without thought. Meaning I have no qualms about carrying any of these knives and using them. Sometimes I get a nice knife in and I just think it's really nice I don't want to muck it up.

I'm still trying to find that nice "next step up" knife that I will actually use. The closest I ever got was the Sebenza in both large and small. But sadly, I just didn't feel ok whipping out a Sebbie in a supermarket to go cut some coupons. It felt more like a work knife than an EDC. It's tough though as I appreciate knives, but when it comes to real work knives that I use it's the ones that I mentioned. I just love their compactness as well as cutting ability.

With the Delica you get more handle and a finger guard. With the Native you get less handle and a choil to replace the finger guard, and this is not needed on the Delica. The Delica is a better over all design The Delica needs no choil and has more usable blade (notice that the Native blade, minus the choil is very short) and you are already choked up on the blade behind the guard. The Delica is much slimmer and the blade is better for all around use. Get the Delica.

The Delica, it's ugly and it works. Had mine for a long time now, and still love it. Just got some custom scales done, it's a keeper. The VG10 doesn't keep an edge too long, but comes back in minutes - don't know what to think of it.

The good news is ypu can get both if need be and then sell the other one at a 10% loss if that. I find that with Spydercos I'm almost compelled to try them all. I always no matter what end right back at a delica, Caly, UKPK though which are almost identical knives in many respect.

*if you have bigger hands though the Native might be better.

it is wider, but the handle is shorter, in my experience. I had asked this same question a couple of years ago and ended up buying another Delica because of the longer handle. The Native requires the use of a choil in order for me to get my full hand on the handle comfortably.

That's kinda like the PM2 I really like the PM2 in the choil position. But the Caly and Delica I like in any grip. If only they made a compression lock Delica or Caly for fun, I'd buy that just to have something different lol.

the delica is a more over all useful knife, but i have a weak spot for the native of any kind! and i really enjoy the G-10 native 5)you could get the FRN LW forum native 5 for a good price now.
