I have been looking for a Delica wave. I have some questions.

Can you get one in flat grind?

Pros or cons vs. flat grind or other?

Any cons on the emerson wave feature?

Thanks for the help!

I like the waves.

But they only come in saber grind.
Con's against the wave.

Nothing major.
If you stab something. It will stop
at the wave

Send it out and get it reground to FFG.
Better slicer.

If you don't like it you can always trade it.

I also remember seeing someone who bought an ffg blade, and cut into it to turn 3/4 of the spydiehole into an Emerson wave. Don't remember if that was a Delica for sure, but I wouldn't think that would be any harder than getting one reground, and it opens up handle color options for you :)

A full flat ground Delica cuts wonderfully, but would be a lousy Emerson Opener model. Why? Because the FFG blade has too little mass to complete the opening to lockup when waved. I know this because I waved a FFG Endura and really have to draw it fast to get it to wave all the way open. The FFG Delica is smaller and lighter still. Note also that the FFG Delica has a more pronounced distal taper than the saber ground Delica - very little mass as you move away from the pivot.

The folks at Spyderco know what they are doing, and this is why the waved Delica is saber ground.

I remember there was a user on here posting maybe 10 or so months ago about a 3D printed waver piece that clipped to the Spyderhole. Search around and you might find it and look further into one.

Alternatively, you may just try the giant zip-tie mod. Never tried it myself and it's not that aesthetically pleasing, but many claim it functions as a wave type opener.
