I just got a delica w/zytel handles . I paid 25 at a pawn shop . It looks In mint shape never used or sharpend . The blade is AU-8 is this steel any good ? Also is that a fair price I paid ?

The FRN/8A version is a pre-98 with the plastic clip. Sought after by many, and hard to find now a days.

Current factory price on the 03 version(FRN/VG-10, metal clip) is 67USD, and has been that price since 99(when I started into spyderco). I'd say you got a good deal, and even more so as you say it's near mint.

8A is a good steel, if you don't mind sharpening. I carry a 8A fixed, and use it every day. The month or so that I've had it I had to hit the stone for about 10 strokes so far on the spyderco whites.

So would you recomend not using it being its hard to get ? I could verywell go get a new version and put that one up :)

Those go for about $35-45 + shipping ($4-6) on ebay, about the same as a current model. I'd use it. It's a good knife. The plastic clips don't wear out your pockets like metal clips.

I'd recommend putting an offer up in the spyderco home forum, as well as in the BFC spyderco section, and buying a new one with the vg-10. maybe even trade for it in the home forum.

A lot of folks on the home forum miss thier plasic clip models.

or even lock the pre-98 model in a safe, and bring it out in a few years to sell.

Yeah I think I will hold on to it for a few months , never know!
I also got a buck tothpick , i never seen one . even on ebay . that worth anything ? or should i use that /?

I have a Delica that I've owned at least 5 years.

It's fully serrated, has the plastic clip, says G2 stainless and seki city japan on the blade.

Is it worth anything?

The Gin-1/G2 version was prior to 96(my earliest reference book), so I can't give you definate date. The c10/c11 line was intro'ed in 1990, so it could be anywhere from 90-95. Have to get someone with more early-spydie knowledge get the date on it.

Again, like I said, the plastic clip version is sought after. Even in used condition. Used will get a trade value, but not a selling value.

Gin 1 was the first marking on the blades, then it changed to G2 markings. As I was told by Sal years ago it is the same steel. I think the change happen around late 95 or in 96. Hope that helps alot.
To me getting a Gin 1 marking is rarest then G2 marking.
