Delicate Question

Folks, when I first signed up on this list I figured I would get all my dream HI knives within a year or two, but Uncle Bill has offered so many great best buys on the forum that I have made a faster start than I expected.

My question is for those long-term forumites, is can I expect this series of specials to continue, or is this just a beginning of the year kind of thing? (I hope not!) The bottom line is that the HI web site prices are super reasonable for what you get, but if I can wait a bit and just get lucky on some more of the limited UBBB's and specials throughout the year, then eventually I should fill out the holes in my collection and get these great deals at the same time, no?

I do expect to buy the more exotic stuff on my wish list like the Uncle Bill special, the BGRS, and the Hanuman special online, as I don't recall ever seeing them here as specials, so this question applies to everything else I guess.

Thanks for any info!

Best Regards,

Svashtar

Uncle Bill probably should answer this.

But my experience has been that Uncle Bill offers blems, PGA's and UBBB's on a sporatic basis depending on what's in stock, left over, not picked up from a special order, damaged, etc.

You just never know. That's why you should just "stay tuned."

:D

Conditions change. There was a 'revolution' of sorts two years ago in Nepal. There was some question about any future at all. Then Bura had a stroke. Kesar left. Kumar came back. Sanu left. KNN is gone. Uncle Bill is not a three year old race horse, and I don't think Pala is either. As long as there are blems, and an Uncle Bill, there will probably be 'deals'. But the deals change, as do the blades offered. And you may have to wait some time for the deal and your prompt reply in a forum of prompt replies. The rash of deals I've seen this Christmas season and right now are among the very best I've ever seen.

There just aren't any absolutes here or anywhere. I feel best when the blade is in my hand. No matter what else happens, I have this Bura or that Kumar or this Kesar.

I've been surfing this forum for around a year or a little less and like was said last few months some of the more desireable and esoteric models have been popping up way more than before. It's awesome. Probably why I have hung out here so much lately. Hope they keep coming up now that my $$ situation is better:D

I've more knives than I need. In general I hang around here for the company of the wierdos who frequent this place.

Me too.:D

Come for the knives, stay for the freaks :D

This last 2-3 months has seen an unusual amount of great deals IMHO, but it ebbs and flows at least in the 2.5 years I've hung out here. There's always been Uncle Bill with the deals of the day, but if you look in the past they tended to be 1 or 2 knives, and sometimes only a limited number per week, at least to my recollection. With the complexity of the chain from Germany MB factory to Nepal to Reno to the buyer, it is a miracle what quality and relative stability of merchandise that UB has been able to sell. If you're looking for something and see it for sale, especially anything non-typical, grab it quick. We thought the YCS would be around for a long time too  Even in the typical knives, there is a little drift to and from the standard, which is what makes it interesting. With my raging HIKV, I buy everything I can afford, frankly to the detriment of my other collections :D. If it's something special, it will get a hard look-see; if it's a blem 18" WWII with horn handle for $72.50, it's probably coming home with me :D Every time I heft a khuk, I wonder at how we can get such handmade tools/art at such prices... and I know in the future I will regret not buying more...

Thank you, Yuh nsuh...

It was created by a perfectly normal HI forum member. My only concern is law enforcement agencies tracking the fingerprint.

NO idea of the criminal history involved.:(

Thanks to all for your insights. I really regret I did not know about HI a few years ago, but then $ was shorter then so who knows...? I'll pick up what I can on the specials, but if I can get the bread together and there's something on the HI site I fancy I don't think I'm going to wait.

Regards,

Svashtar

Bruise is right on:

Ditto for me! Forum full of wierdos, good egos, talent, wisemen. All who have kept me sane over the last couple of years. When my spirits are down, I'm brought back up with a AM/PM chuckle, a reminder that I'm not the only one with problems/responsibilities, some good Karma around here. Keep it up!!!!!

I certainly appreciate it.

Deals depend largely on the situation in Nepal which is variable and uncertain. When there is not shooting and bombing and travel is not restricted and no curfews you will see more deals.
