I have a 6OT which I have sharpened to cut hair tips. I has only been sharpened once and only carried a few (less than 5) time. I just aquired a 125OT to replace it. The 125OT has never been carried or sharpened.
Both are in great condition.

I know that the 125 is more valuable and probably should be kept in my collection, but the thing looks so totally awesome - I'd love to carry it instead of the 6.

What should this bewildered Schradaholic do?

carry it. you can always find another if you really want.
My vote!

Ted, I am a die-hard optimist. While I do agree with Larry, I would go one step further. I would get a beater knife of each to carry. What you have there is the need for more knives! Carpe Dium! Sieze the day! Or in the paraphrased words of a famous American commander when surrounded by the enemy "Excellent! Gentlemen, we have the rare opportunity to attack the enemy in any direction!"

(Conversely, if you are feeling Schradeophile's remorse, send them both to me and I will decide to use or carry...grovel..grovel
:D

Prices on ebay have dropped to there lowest price in a year in some cases less than before the closing, . It is a buyers market. Then there was the great inflation period. While a zillion of these were made the prices now ( during the summer at least make these a, blue chip stock ). Just buy all you can, this quality is as obsolete as the american icon that made it. If you need an analogy think about breaking or losing the only example you have of one of these after carrying it for 20 years or so and not having another. Or perhapes someday a grandchild will admire your Schrade you can either give him one you stashed or buy him a brand new Taylor version. Your call your choice. LT

Two knives with an intertwined history. As I often write, the 5" Lockback hunter as created by Mr. Buck knocked the traditional 5 1/4" hunter right out of popularity. But we don't need no stinkin' lockbacks! We know how to use a finely built production knife with only our common sense and a good, strong backspring to keep from cutting our fingers off. Show the world what kinda man you are, carry the 125!

Carry them all you can never have enough knives. heck lots of cowboys carried 2 guns. Some police carry 3 . I might have another vest made but instead of the beaded patchs I might have it done in Schrade knives. I like decisions and problems like this. Yup I have an agreement with President Bush he makes decisions on Iraq and I figure out what knives I am going to carry each day. Since all you nice people put up with my inane babblings I thought I would post something you might not see to often. The knife is a ( real jigged bone lady liberty Schrade LTD ED in one of the patterns in this discussion. ) The steel jigs or fixtures are the molds used to make the staglon versions ( UH ) of this same pattern and yes I have most of the other molds for the patterns that used these types of handles both OT and UH models. So when you look at your knives out there hold them up to the computer and introduce them to there Grandaddy ( so to speak ) who they were made from. Now just one more thing which is not related but since the Marguarita Moderator Phil is following this thread. WAS UP WIT THE FORUM NAME CHANGE.? Or are we just going to become Taylors Touting Toters. I am fed up with giving him free advertising even though it is not all good, there is no such thing as bad press and a lot of people still do not know a real Schrade from a rice cake. I say in the same vein as our forefathers who wrote the declaration of Independence and the cutlers who left England an Germany for better working conditions, and then left Waterville cut ( considered to be the first knife company in the USA ) to start NYK in Mattewan and then Walden, and then left NYK over not being able to play baseball during lunch and started Walden knife and then the Walden knife cutlers who left Walden knife after also getting pissed off about something and started Ellenville knife. I say in the name of all these people and history Give me american knives or give me a gun (perhapes 2 or 3). It is time for revolution. Up the rebels down the rice burners. I wish we had a document like the declaration of independence my name signed upon it would make John Hancocks name seem small.
RATE A RANT POLL
(NOTE) The author would appreciate a rating of 1-10 on the above his latest ranting post, by anyone who would care to comment. Thankyou all and it should be noted in the rating process that this was written prior to the imbibing of any alcoholic libations.

OMG, LT, the stuff you can come up with to show us. Those three pics of yours deserve a thread of their own. I'm impressed as usual.

And, before I begin cutting up limes for the days libations, I'll give ya a ten for the post. Ten being high. Also, as the guys in the 'Pirate's Cove' do, I'll chuck ya a green chicklet.

Name change... I had too many...er.. Schrades in the fire, with the forum knife and all. I had been exchanging messages with one of the senior moderators about this. And I had lots of input from the membership here.

A well developed rant. Excellent bouquet with a hint of tang. A good blend of vintage with current content, excellent display of manufacturing memorabilia, and just the right color. You neglected to mention Mom and Apple Pie, but more than made up for it with "Taylor's Touting Toters" and rice reference. Pickup trucks were not mentioned, but the vest made of Schrades more than compensated. Overall, I give the rant a 9.875, but you asked the important bonus question, so that makes it a perfect 10 (I had to round it down because the max was 10).

LT,

10 for content, 10 for history, 7 for rant.. You were way to knise. ;-)

I'll put up a pict of the stagalon version of the Liberty for comparison.

I saw this knife and was impressed with the difference.

And to think, all of this started from a simple question. I love it. You guys are totally awesome. I have decide to put the hone to the 125 (it's always hard to do with a new one), and hang it on my belt. It is hard to really grasp what it looks like in photos. You don't get the full effect of that 4" blade until you snap it out and hold it in your hands. 4", by the way, is the max allowed in Tennessee, so I just squeaked in under the wire.

LT, your comment about breaking/losing it has been in the back of my mind since I started gathering these fine tools. Whenever I find one that blows me away, I always immediately try to get another one before I get to crazy on the hone. As you said, you just never know...

Which just goes to show that any question no matter how important or unimportant it may be, can lead to any direction as long as you are not mandated to actually answer it or stick to the topic or subject. My Grandfather on my fathers side raised cattle in Oklahoma he shipped cattle all over the country I would like to think that I am as big a bullshipper as he was ( of course in my own way). In fact I would even extend that comment to saying that there are a great many of us on this forum who are indeed big bullshippers. By the way what was the original question? Oh yea do and carry, whatever you want, the bigger the better, a big knife is a sign of masculinity like big feet or guns with big barrels whoops there I go drifting away again. LT

Wow LT, you keep a lot more than the stone.... molds, stamps, what else do you have under the bed???, I think you are saving it all for when the right time comes and some real Americans step up to revive the legend.

Ted, I think that I would use yet try to not abuse these knives, and hope to eventually hand them down to a son or grandson, he would likely appreciate them more than a brand new or unused knife.

Tang stamps, hot scrim dies, this is just a sample by the way the first three pics are in my upstairs bathroom the tub has now been converted to a holding table for sorting. for want of room in this modest 4 bedroom house with den, barroom, cellar and attic. There is another bathroom with a shower so I do still take my bi monthly shower. Frankly it is a bit much, kind of like Noah must have felt when he kept stepping on Camel poo and walking into things a bit cramped. Of course I do have 4 out buildings and I am even at the point where I can get in them. Oh yes and my trailer I forgot that. Oh yes and the tarped shed and the covered pallets. It is a lot better now than it was. LT
