DELTA Bandsaw Question

I have graciously been granted access to a DELTA Bandsaw that uses 93.5" blades. I have been told by the owner of the saw that in order to adjust the saw's speed it needs a set of split pins installed. He has always used the saw for cutting acrylic sheets and I have never tinkered with a bandsaw. Since neither of us seem to have experience cutting metal I am not sure if split pins are in fact the solution.
Does anyone know if split pins are what is needed in this case?
Thanks!

It's almost impossible to slow the speed of s wood cutting bandsaw down enough to cut metal. I tried with pulley changes but it just didn't work. Most metal cutting bandsaws have a geared motor to make em run super slow. I have seen geared motors on ebay pretty cheap so you might be able to rig one up that way.

It will friction cut at around 3000 rpm with a dull blade, as Tom Mayo has mentioned before.

Ugh...
Thanks guys, that's what I was afraid of.:o
Oh well I think I'll be looking into an angle grinder as opposed toa metal cutting bandsaw to save some money.
Thanks again.:)
