I just ordered a Delta Dart and Covert Action
Tanto. How good are they and how do I sharpen the C.A.T. (covert action tanto)? Thanx in advance for the advise!
Well...You can't really cut with them if that's what you're getting at. You can "sharpen" the C.A.T. with a file, but these plastic "things" are designed to puncture more than anything else. Just don't try and sneak them into a courthouse or an airport or you'll be in a world of trouble.
I'm considering getting a Delta Dart myself. I don't want to piss off the security inspectors here, so it will have to wait.
Zytel doesn't really get too sharp (obviously). I'm not really to sure how you'd go about sharpening the CAT - I'd try a Lansky dogbone myself. The Delta Dart looks more practical as a punch, either in forward or reverse grips.
I purchased the delta dart as last ditch weapon and the C.A.T. as a weapon and last ditch tool (and if i ever need a corrosion proof knife). Can the C.A.T. be used to cut soft material like webbing, soft wood and string?
It depends on how thick the string is. Forget about cutting any webbing or wood with it or you'll be sawing through the material for hours. Use a real knife for that. On the plus side, it makes a good cheese cutter and spreader.
The Delta Dart works great jammed into hot corn on the cob. The C.A.T. would make a fair butter knife. I wouldn't bother trying to cut anything much harder than that with it.
The only advice I've seen on "sharpening" zytel blades like the CAT, "CIA letter opener", and Blackie Collins letter opener is to use a nail file.
That said, they're still just stabbers. Even the serrated ones won't do more than generally rip up soft material. They're really not very good as anything but weapons, IMO.
