I got my delta z knives in the mail today. I'm not real happy with one of them. The lockup is real poor. After the blade swings off of the ball bearing, it gets very very hard to finish opening all the way. Its just that last click or so, but it makes for a tough to open knife.

It also is hard to release the liner ,,,,,,,, it kinda feels like its catching on some rough metal. Takes a lot of thumb pressure to push the liner aside to close the knife. It grabs/sticks.. I'll have to polish it .. that should fix the problem.

I am not returning it so I might just take it apart and see what I can do to make it open smoother.
The other knife is real smooth. Not the same problem. BUT it does have a different lockup.
Both are liners.

The one with the problem has a half moon cut out in the blade.. which then butts into the stop pin. Maybe the design of the knife is poor
I do like the cowbone handle its nice an smooth......feels good in my hand.
Oh well

At least you got them on sale! I'm waiting for the few knives that I ordered from Delta Z to show up. I won't be too heartbroken if they turn out to be beaters. I plan on using a couple of the ones I ordered as gifts to a couple of my buddies.

I was hoping mine would show today, maybe tomorrow. hard to complain about quality for the prices they are bought for. Evn normal prices were low, the ones I have are decent knives for the Buck but they are not Spyderco or Benchmade but know one said they are. Still for the sale prices WOOT more knives!

Jack142, Sorry to hear about your latest order. BarnZ would help you out for sure. But if you don't feel like going threw that, I will buy them off of ya:)

Bad Guy,
You seem to know a bit about Delta Z.

what kind of quality should I expect from thier knives ?

I never bought from them before, so, the knives I bought were cheap enough that I am not getting hurt.

I a dissapointed in the one knife though

I might just have to sell it to you, if I cant get it to loosen up.

Jack

The quality of all of the knives I got has been above average. As mentioned, its not fair to compare to some higher end knife makers, but all the knives I have gotten, About 12 or so and the several I have given away have all had solid lock up, been smooth and flawless.

Ok guys,
A little more update on the knives that I bought at Delta Z.
AS I said before the bone handle knife has a real rough lockup and release. When you hold the spring open, it is smooth and opens fully. But is has kinda a scratchy feely when you play with it.
I believe there is a fault in either the dedent ball or
the face of the lockup needs some polishing and smoothing out, maybe even some light filing.
Also, one of the pins on the bone handle is not ground down flat enough and has a sharp edge to it.

The Tanto knife I bought with the wood handle opens real smooth. BUT... when you rap the spine ( and not too hard a rap ) it closes on you.
NOT a very good linerlock.
I dont know what is wrong with this knife.
.....
Bottom line. I am dissapointed. I dont want to kick a man when he is down but well 2 outa 2 and both are not made properly ?? Now I know why they are going out of business.

I hope to take them apart this weekend and see what I can do to fine tune them. Otherwise I am trashing them. Thank God I am only into them for 20 a knife.

Oh Well

Jack,

I'm sorry you feel that way, but perhaps with 2 of 2 N/G as you say, you might want to try buying a Lottery ticket. I will not dispute the problems since I have not seen the knives you have in your possession. All I will do is state a statistic of Delta Z... that is for almost 4 years in business and 10-15,000 knives sold during that time, our reject box has about 60 knives in it. You do the math.

I recieved the knives I ordered from Delta Z today and I'm very happy with the purchase. Great knives for the money; positive lockup, smooth opening and shaving sharp. I couldn't ask for more.

Jack, good luck on fixing the problem.

BarnZ:

I picked up 18 linerlocks & lockbacks & 360 pivot knives + a cocobolo gift box from the sale and none are going to wind up in your 'reject box'! I'm very pleased with all of them, especially the Brown Maple Damascus Lock Back and the Red Maple Teflon Osprey. Sorry to see you close up shop!:(
