I just bought a knife from a sportsman expo. It is a damascas pattern and my first damascus knife ever. Since I don't have a lot of money I usually by cheap kinves, but try and find the best deals I can. Since this is my first damascus knife I decided to do some research on the damascus material, and why it's so sought after. To my surprise I found that maybe i should have done this research first. I know rookie move, but I love knives and seem to have to many. After some Google research I found that real damascus metal is derived from wootz steel and is a lost art and all damascus steel is a form of welded steel.
So with that said I would like to know if the knife I bought for $150.00 is actually worth it, and is it still a good quality knife?
The knife maker is Larry S. Henderson custom knife maker. I would post a picture but apparently I don't have access to that yet so I will post photos soon. I hope.

First, welcome to Blade Forums.

Just like anything else, there's varying qualities of damacsus/pattern-welded steels. A quality Damascus knife blade will perform/cut/hold-up extremely well under extreme hard use.
In addition, it can add a dimension of beauty and uniqueness to a knife and allows a knifemaker another opportunity to distinguish his skills and knives from other knifemakers.

The below is an old thread but contains some very good information and discussion from some who are very knowledgeable on the subject.

You can post photos with photobucket or some other hosting service.
