I'm thinking about trying to pick up a AD 10 on the secondary market. What is the average mark up on price I should expect to pay compared to ordering direct and waiting? Thanks for any info.

Depends on the knife and the materials. Simple G-10, CPM-154 blade will run yout between $500 to $600. I usually see carbon fiber scale AD-10's for around $700 to $800.

I don't see too many of them make their way to the secondary market, mostly because Andrew can only make a limited number of custom pieces a year while under contract with Cold Steel. I don't go out of my way to look for them, but I seem to remember only 2-3 come up on this forum for sale since I joined.

I would imagine you could see a pretty wide range of pricing. Hinderers knives are in some cases double what Rick charges for the same model directly from him, and I believe Rick is more prolific than Andrew.

So...$800-$1000 is probably the range you are going to be in.

This is consistent with what I've seen as well. When people get custom Demkos, they tend to keep them -- I know I'm going to when Andrew finishes mine around the beginning of 2012! :D But on the rare occasions they're sold on the secondary market, $800-1000 is the range I remember seeing as well.

Also, for what it's worth, I remember someone mentioning a few months ago that they had contacted Andrew and that he was going to be raising his prices a bit when he opened his books again. I assume the reason is increased materials cost and increased demand for his work. Frankly, I'm perfectly fine with that: at the previous prices of $510-600 or so (depending on options), the AD-10 was easily one of the most amazing values in the custom knife world (i.e., it was probably underpriced by at least a couple hundred dollars). Given the quality of Andrew's work, not to mention the fact that he's a great guy to deal with and very accommodating of customers' special requests, I'm more than happy if he ends up with a bit more money in his pocket at the end of the day for making such great knives.

Last time I heard his list was approaching 13-14 months wait time.

I don't think many owners of Demko customs would sell theirs unless really desperate.

i'm so glad i ordered mine last september & got it this past april.for a little while during the wait i lost interest a bit,but glad i went through with it. i guess 490 was a bargain.

Mine should be ready any week now (large AD10, carbon fiber, thick liners, elmax, deep carry clip). Haven't heard from Demko in a bit but hope all is well. So stoked!

Sounds sweet! Post pics when you get it! :D

oh, please post pics. I could only get on the email list for when he opens his books.

Thrill, that is one tough knife you have. How long does it take to complete a knife once he starts on one?
