Hey all - quick question about the Demko Sharklock and production AD20.5 warranty. I have two AD20.5s and love the knifes and the design. One of the knives is the most solid lock I have ever felt. The other (brand new) has just a bit of front to back play. Not sure if with the shark lock design this has potential to get worse or somewhat self correct over time as the knife breaks in? To be clear the front to back play is no worse than many other production knives and certainly would not affect the use of the knife and honestly most people would never notice it - its just not the same rock solid lock as my first AD20.5 that really sold me on the design.

Hoping to get your feedback and thoughts on the best action and what the Demko warranty is on production knives (I didn't see it listed). If the warranty is good and the design has potential to self correct I will keep it and see what happens. If not I can always exchange it.

My 20.5 is rock solid. I’ve read about a few people having issues with lock up. The Demkos took care of them. Try contacting them through the email on their site or Instagram if you’ve got one.

Hopefully they can get it corrected in a timely manner for you! Keep us posted.

I just noticed mine too has play, and its a pretty significant amount. Though i do have to be forceful in moving the blade for it to show. Mine is not new and ive even broken the tip from dropping it. I recently put a new edge on it and ive never noticed the blade movement before. I will just keep on using it as its meant to be used. Maybe disassemble, clean, and reassemble sooner than expected though.

My ad20 is like a fixed blade that can fold. Its solid.

Ok so small update. Not 100% sure what was going on but I took it apart and reassembled and tightened everything up and now its bank vault solid. No idea what would have caused that........
Did you carry it at all? Could be as simple as pocket lint.

Nope. New out of the box. I wonder if the stop pen was a little lopsided and when I put it back together it got a side with a little more material.
You might be onto something there. Could have been a bit of "factory dirt" tucked in the pin hole.

Some knives maybe just need some extra loving attention ? :)

Seriously , I've fooled around with some that weren't working, with no idea what I was doing ...and they then decided to work fine .?

I had an MG AD20 that developed a bit of up and down play after a week or so. I sent it in for warranty work and Andrew found that when the blade was tumbled during production it was left in the media for too long. The lock face on the blade got knocked down a bit too much which ended up giving the contact surface a slight radius which could be felt as vertical play. He cleaned up the lock surface and it was rock solid after that.
