DEMKO Folder Question…

Hey all.

I’ve been looking for a nice, mid priced EDC knife. One brand that interests me is DEMKO.

I have never seen or handled one, but they do look like a great knife. They also seem to get great reviews as well.
I like longer blade lengths, close to 4 inches or so, and it looks like almost all of their knives are 3 inches or so.
The other day I was browsing some of the retailers and auction sites and found a folder with a 3.7 inch blade. It looked great. Unfortunately it was priced at $650.

Does DEMKO make larger blade EDC knives as a normal part of their line or are they a special run or something? This one had titanium on both sides.
I saw several of their 3 inch models that weren’t titanium on both sides and they were priced at less than $200. I know that when you add titanium scales that have any machining done, it’s gonna cost much more. I’d like to know if there are any DEMKO folders that have longer blades that aren’t $650. Am I out of luck in trying to get a DEMKO with a longer blade and a more affordable price?

What’s your thoughts? Do you own one like I am interested in? I’d like to see pics if you have any.

Thanks for your time and help.

The AD20 and AD20S are both larger than what you first saw, which sounds like the AD20.5. Those are made in Taiwan and widely available.

Demko makes the AD20 (and AD20S) in the USA in small batches and they sell out instantly. They make Grivory, G10, CF, and Ti models with various blade steels. G10 is $425, usually much more on the secondary market. Sign up for alerts everywhere you can and hope you get lucky! :)

I love my AD20S. Superbly made and a delight to carry and use.

I got an email the other day saying the AD20S with G-10 was in stock... click the link. Already sold out 12 minutes later.

1 day it will be mine.

12 minutes is about 11 minutes too late! ;)

Here is one in the exchange:

They do pop up once in a while. Some sell very fast.

The shark lock is a really cool lock and makes you want to keep playing with the knife. I hope you find one and can see how you like it for yourself.

The shark lock in addition to being one of the strongest and in my opinion best locks out there is it is designed to be played with. The blade rides on bearings, the sliding lock uses a coil spring and the lock interface is low wear by design.

By design the triad lock is very easy and relatively safer to play with (repeated one hand opening and closing) and the learning curve is very small.

Fidgeting with any lock over and over will wear it out eventually with the shark lock it probably is not a problem anytime soon.

If playing with it all day and super easy one hand closing is not important to you I would not dismiss the triad lock. The triad is super strong and available at relatively budget prices.

The MG AD20/AD20S does not have a 4 inch blade (a little over 3 1/2 inches actually 3 and 5/8) and I have not seen any 4 inch models. I am sure Demko can make a longer one however given how bogged up they are with standard sized AD20/AD20S models I don;t know if a special order will be possible.

Price wise MG AD20/AD20S s are expensive when available and outrageous on the secondary market. I can't imagine a custom larger version not being even more expensive.

The smaller AD20.5 made in Taiwan is the only budget priced shark locks that I know of. I love them. They are high quality and fun to play with. Large they are not.

G greater did a good job describing above. One thing I would add is that on the 20.5 model with titanium scales Demko has a washer so the bearings don't scribe a line in the titanium scales. That is a nice detail that Demko does and other companies like Hinderer does not do. It made me appreciate the detail they are into. Maybe they do this on the larger models but I do not have one that I have taken apart.

The shark lock coil spring is more durable then say an omega spring that Benchmade uses in their axis lock. It is not uncommon that an omega spring would break. The shark lock kind of reminds me of an axis lock in the ease to flip it open or closed. The shark lock is an ingenious design.

All these orange AD20s are beautiful 😍
I’m with the OP as far as the size of the AD20.5…. I can’t imagine it would cost much more to make it a little bigger.
I personally would love a 3.5” AD20.5, and I think they would sell just as well as the 3” models.
Maybe they are in the works….?
