DeMolay Commandery sword made by Ames

I was a active De Molay for 7 years in 1960's Never saw 1st sword . Agree likely Knight Templar sword

Not sure what the confusion is. Yes it belonged to a Sir Knight of the Blue Lodge and was also in the chapter of DeMolay. All Master Masons can then choose to advance or not. All Sir Knights were first Master Masons. I am not a Free Mason but if pressed could go further to explain the hierarchy and branches/chapters available to the various degrees of Masonry. The vast capability of search engines can be of use to any interested ;)

The ad copy for the sword quite accurate except I would expect it to be sometime between the 1880s and the1920s. There are exact matches for this sword in both the Ames catalogs and the book linked above. There are other examples tha actually have the DeMolay figure on the cross guard.. Keep in mind that ordering a fraternal sword was simply calling out a number and options. There were years when in was Henderson Ames and then later in the 1920s bought out by MC Lilley, only to arise once more as the Ames Sword Company.

Virtually any Templar sword could have been seen worn by a Sir Knight in any of his chapters (merit badges eh). There were specific sword types expected of an Emminent Commander or such but still a very personal buy whebn a sword was required as part of the regalia. I imagine a lot of the Blue lodge gatherings and meetings are more suit or blue collar apparel with few dress events aside from ceremony.

Cheers
