This afternoon I finally got the time to watch Duvon's part of the HI Konvention video, and right about the time the cameraman bumps into a flowerpot(?) or the tabletop, my TV shut off.
So I dug up the proper remote, turned it back on, rewound the tape so I wouldn't miss anything, and the TV shut off at exactly the same moment.
I turned the TV back on, and it shut itself off again
After I let the tape run another 5-10 seconds I turned the TV back on a third and fourth time. The fourth time the TV stayed on.
I don't think it's a hardware problem, because if the tape was physically bad, the VCR would have stopped, not the TV. Perhaps there's something in the tape's coding that's commanding my TV to go to sleep? Or, if it's something from another plane of existence, does Lama Jigme do long-distance exorcisms of HI videotapes?
The tape seems perfectly fine otherwise.
