Denim coloured handle materials?

Are there any handle materials that come close to mimicking the colour/texture visuals of slightly worn blue denim? If not, I was wondering about making up a small press and experimenting with strips of demin soaked in epoxy resin.

There was a thread about that very subject, by someone in eastern Europe(Poland), I believe. He was sucsessful at it, and posted some pics of the results.
Think it was here on the custom forum. Could have been blade discussion though. About one year ago.

Also - instead of strips, you could do epoxied denim discs like the handles made from leather discs. Sounds like an interesting project. Let us know what you come up with.

I did a quick search yesterday with no luck, but will try again today. Denim discs sounds interesting, but I am not sure it would give the right denim "look and feel" that I am hoping to go for. The idea is to have a handle that sort of blends into its surroundings.

Let's try this over in the bladesmith area.

I read somewhere that someone soaked layers of denim in epoxy and put them togather in a press. Like making your own micarda.

Sergiusz Mitin posted some info on his method of making home-made micarta. Try using "home-made micarta" as your search word.

Click on my banner and I have some pictures of some that I have made. I finally changed my full time job work shift and got some sent to Rhinoknives(Laurence Segal)monday.Sorry so long Laurence.

James Piorek at www.bladerigger.com can make up his "Rigger Coat" handle coating in just about any color and pattern you desire. It's nothing like micarta, if that's what your looking for, but I've had a few knives with it and I think it works pretty well for a self-defense or martial-arts piece.

I have a piece of Corian countertop material that's about the color of worn denim, has some whitish streaks through it. Does not look like Micarta, but might "blend into the surroundings" successfully. I hadn't thought about that aspect of the stuff. If you want some I'll send you a knife handle's worth, just send me email.

You can lay up denim strips with fiberglass resin then press the whole mess together preferably between teflon strips or something coated with a release agent. I believe that most epoxy breaks down with continued exposure to uv light so I wouldn't suggest using it. Accura-glass might work though, and it comes with a release agent in the kit.
