Dent on a Buck Vantage Pro

I recently bought a Buck Vantage Pro online. As soon as I opened it I noticed 2 small dents on the back of the G10 scales. Since they look exactly parallel I don't know if it's supposed to be like that or if it's a design flaw. I buy knives mainly as collection items so I like them to be in perfect shape when new and that small detail is stressing me out. (Maybe it's my OCD kicking in) Can anyone tell me if their Vantage has those dents also. If not, what should I do? Should I send it back to Buck to get that fixed. Also, the blade is very off center. Any advice would be appreciated.

i seem to remember mine having the same indentations, i really do not understand the function of them though. will have to check again when i get home.

I seriously don't mean any disrespect at all, but I think you are being a little too picky. It's a 50 dollar knife, and you can't really expect perfection. On a 50 dollar knife those two dents would not bug me in the slightest bit.

As far as the off center blade goes, that's par for the coarse with Buck's Vantage series. You're lucky to find one with a centered blade.

A mass produced $50 collection knife? Not exactly what I would consider a collectible. The only way you can ensure you have a perfect knife, and this has been brought up dozens of times is to purchase a minimum of 10 or 15 knives, select the absolute best one, and sell the rest.
If you want perfection and collectability, look into customs or mid-tech knives. Mass produced knives that are not given the same amount of attention to detail as a Sebenza or XM-18 will not be perfect. Time spent on a knife = cost for someone's time making it so.

The "dents" are in line, and both the same size and shape. To me, this pretty much rules out the "defect" part of the question.

Since they serve no apparent purpose, I'd say they are probably part of the production process. Perhaps from a clamp that holds the scale in place, or maybe that's where the bit that cuts the scale out starts it's cut.

I'm only guessing though.

The dents are in line with each other, and seem to exist on other examples of the model (so not accidental defect). The dents are also in line with the flipper; perhaps it's a half-baked ergonomic detail to help the user stop moving their finger back after flipping open the knife...?

confirmed, the dents are fabricated as my Vantage Pro has them as well. they kind of provide minimal grip when you place your thumb on them, and i emphasize minimal. it's still my favorite folder in my small collection.

As John said, if you are buying new knives as "collectables", you need to be buying in a different price class.

I wouldn't worry about the blade being off center. Being off center in the closed position won't affect its performance when opened for business.

I have some nice Benchmade knives and some nice Spyderco knives. My Buck Vantage Pro gets carried at least as much as any of them. You really can't beat the performance/price ratio. However, the Vantage Pro is a "user", not a "collectable".

One of the best values out there.

mine doesn't have any dents and the blade is very nearly centered. i am quite satisfied with it as it fits my need for a edc. as a user, don't worry about it. for a collectable-that's your call.
