I'm looking at a Spyderco Lava, which has a 1 /78 inch blade and a pocket clip. Can anyone advise if this is considered 'concealed' in Colorado? Or Denver? Am I better of getting a larger, normal lockback in a belt clip such that it's overtly 'open carry'?

Basically, I want to stay within the rules, but I have heard rumors that some cities consider pocket clips concealed, and that some might consider a blade like the Lava a 'punching' knife.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I would think legal based on size of blade, but you may want to call the PD, they are actually helpful..

Yea this is a concern of mine as well. I will be spending some time in Dever this year do you think my SOG Flash II black Tini would be alright out there?

The colorado knife laws specify:

"Knife" means any
dagger, dirk, knife, or stiletto with a blade over 3-1/2
inches in length, or any other dangerous instrument
capable of inflicting cutting, stabbing, or tearing
wounds, but does not include a hunting or fishing knife
carried for sports use. The issue that a knife is a
hunting or fishing knife must be raised as an affirmative
defense.

The problem is that it really means:

"Knife" means any (list of things), or anything with a blade or a tip.

The following things have been found to be knives in CO:

1- A knife with a blade smaller than 3.5 inches (qualifies as a dangerous instrument, etc. etc.)
2- A screwdriver (yes really), because he intended to use it as a weapon.

Note that *Denver* may have other laws in addition (and I believe that they do). In general a knife with that blade length won't get you in trouble, but technically carrying anything that could be construed as a weapon by the letter of the law *could* be used against you.
