This is a new and different way of bringing recognition to these makers for their awards - as contrasted with the old style of lining them up against the wall with their plaques and blank expressions. My idea was to show the makers as real people, which I believe was only possible because they've come to trust me over the past 7 years. Would appreciate your feedback (keeping in mind that it's not economically feasible for me to shoot their winning knives without compensation, which is what show photographers have been expected to do in the past).

Congrats to all the knifemakers, including Jerry McClure who gave me one of my first honest critical looks at my work and pushed me down the path toward better knives.

No doubt about why they call that one guy "Whiskers."

^^^ I love this format. So warm and friendly, as opposed to the omnipresent stares as a group. LOL!

Nicely captured and displayed. A hearty congrats to these men, and your skillz!

This. Well done Buddy - and congrats to the winners.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Coop - Thanks but I dunno bout skilz. The one technical thing I did that really helped was I brought along one of those 2X3' white foam-core boards and used it like a "beauty dish" to bounce light back up and into the shadows under chins, brows and ball-caps - like you taught me to do with knives.:loyal:

This is Jerry McClure's Best in Show knife.
Just laid it down on his table with a piece of whiteboard as a background. The original files were horrendous - the bad lighting only part of the challenge. Even so, thanks to the miracle of modern digital acquisition and processing, I was able to salvage a useable image. 50 CAL - the knife and sheath are inspired. Canon 5D3 w/ 40mm pancake lens plus Photoshop CS6. No matter what people may say, good gear matters, and that's the message I get from this knife.
