My department allows carry of folders with up to a four inch blade. Policy also states that the knife must lock (duh). Fixed blades of any kind are strictly forbidden. We also have no training in using a knife in a defensive situation. I am curious about other departments and their policies.

I work for a small department in rural PA.

No policy on this subject, believe it or not.
My Chief's feelings are the following;
1- folders are OK for carry on your person
2- fixed blades need to be stored with other gear in the trunk.
3- Knives are to be considered tools....not weapons.

But I carry a Sebanza and on my Tac-Gear a fixed.

My dept does not have a written policy. They only real guidline is state law. The norm is to carry a folder on you and a fixed in the car if you want.
