Alright, I'm trying to get my "home base" sharpening up to speed, but what about a deployable sharpener(s)? We pretty much deploy with an A and B bag (duffle bags), plus your rucksack and maybe a small assault pack. Not sure I would deploy with my sharpmaker. What would be some good, small, multipurpose sharpeners?

DMT Duofolds are small and versatile

EZE-Lap is a great diamond rod sharpener

A.G. Russell's Field Sharpener Field Sharpener looks like a "deployable" mini-Sharpmaker

Maybe even a small 10" steel?

Any other recommendations for compact/deployable sharpening devices?

I think I would go with the Duofolds myself. They're small but they work well as a field expedient.

ROCK6, to save even more weight, I used to carry a small DMT sharpener made to sharpen the edge on snow skiis. It was made by DMT and was only 3" X 1", smaller than a Duofold. I kept it in my "butt pack". I got it at the CuttleryShoppe some years ago. I got the blue "medium" grit -- good all around grit, it would put a "toothy" sharp edge on that would last a while. If you want a smoother edge, then also carry a 3" "moonstone" (ceramic rod) from SmokeyMountain Knife Works. Cheap and very effective.

I concur that DMT's duofold's are probably the most versatile, lightest and most robust. The only other success I've had was Gatco's little triangular jobby...mostly for folders with serrations. Thanks,

I took the handles off of my DMT duofold and put a lanyard of 550 cord thru one of the holes. They are the great hones.
