Depreciation?

I am trying to work out a trade with another forum member and I want to make sure that both of us get a fair deal. I really don't have any experience on trading knives and I was wondering if there was a scale of depreciation on knives in somewhat of a general sense or if it was on a case to case basis or what. I know that knives that are more collectable can bring a higher price. But I am looking for info on depreciation on knives that are basically production models. Like I said I really want to make sure that both of us come out smiling on this one. If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

depreciate from use?? how much use, what condition is the knife in, what make/model, lots of variables in this question imho, it just depends on the knife/etc.

Ease of replaceability is another factor in setting a value on a knife. If the maker doesn't turn out many of a certain model/type over a period of time and there is a high demand for his work in the marketplace, then a premium price (often more than the new cost) might be applied to a used knife. This could apply to production knives as well as customs.
Feel free to correct me, someone, but that seems to be the case from what I've seen.

E-bay can be a pretty good start in terms of looking for a reasonable price. Internet knife shops are sometimes useful, but their prices vary a lot. I've wondered this myself recently, when an old user Sebenza came on the market. It was one of the early models, had been used, but it was a Sebenza so it was still solid. Seemed the seller thought of it as something of a collectors item, was asking more for it than you would pay for a similar new model, with higher quality blade steel. So was it a rare collectors item or an old user made of relatively inferior materials?
