Hello members of the porch,

It is a feeling of great sadness that compels me to post today. I'm not sure why I feel such a loss for a man I only met once, but Derrick Bohn was truly one of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure to come across. For this reason, I feel like spreading a little 'Christmas Joy' in the form of one of his signature Northwoods models, the Fremont Jack. I just love the contrast between the matte OD Green and the Polished RLM. Makes me think of pine trees and candy canes... and being with family. Please take some time out of your day to think of Derrick and his family as you enter yourself IN on this post. Each member gets 1 in and I will pick 2 winners in a few days. Thank you all, and enjoy your weekend, hopefully with some loved ones!

EDIT:

A little more on the 'Christmas in June' theme - It was exactly one year ago that I was lucky enough to attend the Summer Bark River Grind-In. Derrick and his whole family made me feel right at home and hooked me up with a bunch of KSF swag... it was a dream come true. I just figured I'd try to spread some of the same kind of Joy I know he would be.

I never met Derek but I remember finding his knives for kids idea and thinking what a great and generous thing it was! My middle son was a recipient of Derrick’s kindness and enthusiasm for knives. I wish I’d known him better.

Thanks for the thoughtful giveaway Jimbo, and count me in!

Never met him, but I always had flawless transactions with KSF...he was one of the good guys and will be missed :(

I'd use the heck out of the green Micarta in loving memory:)

A good dude gone way too soon. I also find it very admirable that his family is doing a fantastic job keeping KSF up and rolling without skipping a beat during all they’ve had to endure recently.

Please count me in and thanks for the generosity.

The man left a very large footprint and it is profoundly sad that he was taken away. I feel such sorrow for his family. To have one of these knives given as a memorial to Derrick would give it special meaning. Thank you for this gesture and please count me in.

I've never met Derrick, but did speak with him on the phone a few times. His kindness, sincerity and love of these little sharp things and his customers was undeniable.

I too found myself reflecting of his loss on a level typically reserved for a close friend.

Truly one of the good guys.

He will be missed.

Derrick certainly had a passion for the hobby and the acumen for the business side. He left s legacy that will live on in the knives we carry. God bless, until we meet again, on another porch.

I never got the chance to meet Derrick, only to get his Friday emails and his postings. Yet I was saddened by his untimely passing. Reading all the tributes led me to read as much of his biography as I could find. I came away feeling that he was one the nicest, most accomplished Souls to walk the face of The Earth. To this day, when My curiosity is piqued, wanting to know about one his knives, I don’t Google the knife. I first let him tell me about it in one his YouTube Videos.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful gesture. Please count me in.

I have the honor of owning several of Derrick’s Northwoods knives, and find them some of my favorites. His love of knives was infectious and that is why I tried some of his patterns. The mini moose was one of those. More than his love of knives was his love of people which was most evident in his business and his posts here. You are missed Derrick. Please count me in too.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, either. The one characteristic you could tell right off the bat is how much he truly loved pocket knives. The choices he made with his Northwods really gave off the impression of what he liked about them, and what he himself would carry in his pocket.

There are those who are in it just for the money, and not the love of our hobby. He was definitely not one of those people. His love for pocket knives really shown through into his business and his line.

A great loss for all of us knife nuts, and an even deeper loss for his family. This is a really good thing you're doing, Jimbo!

I’m sure Derrick is smiling upon us now.
Keep using those Northwoods just like they were meant to be used.
I’m in and thanks for the gracious offering PNWJimbo PNWJimbo

Like others here, I never met or conversed with the man but his enthusiasm was infectious. I'm glad that his company and vision are continuing on in his memory.

Anyone promoting Traditional knives is promoting the Right Thing in my view. His family are bearing an intolerable burden, we could all be in that position in an instant.

Thanks for a very decent GAW, Will

I'm in, extremely generous giveaway, and very nice sentiments expressed here. I didn't know Derrick, but for the comments I have read on these forums. Based on that alone I'm sure his legacy will live on and continue to inspire others. Thanks for the opportunity, those are beautiful knives.

I enter giveaways very rarely, but I'd be honoured to carry one of those knives in memory of Derrick (and more than happy to pay the overseas postage if it comes to it). Thanks for the generous giveaway Jimbo, and good luck everyone

Thoughts and prayers continue to go up for the entire Bohn family, such a loss.
Thanks for the memorial, Jimbo.

What an incredibly generous giveaway, as well as a great way to honor his memory. Count me in please! Thanks! -Lance

Prayers go out to Derricks family. I didn't know him personally but I can relate to the loss of family and friends.
I have been trying to snag a Freemont on the exchange but I I didn't really want the burlap and I've been to slow to grab any others. so I'm in thanks.
