hey i found a "saber" slip joint pocket knife in a field a while back and it looks like it would be nice if i could get the rust off the blades and out of the space where the blade goes into...... i was just wondering how i would clean it

(p.s. dont ask for pictures)

Oil will help remove the rust.
I've used "3 in 1" oil, as well as WD-40 to do so.
Just put a good amount on the knife and let it sit over night.
Wipe it down the next day, repeat as necessary.
An old tooth brush will come in handy for those hard to reach places.

You can start by soaking it in mineral oil (found in the drug store, sold as a laxitive) and brushing it with an old toothbrush.

Use WD 40, and soak it down good. Let it sit for a day, and wipe it dry.
Use 0000 steel wool on the rust, then flush with WD 40 again.
Repeat as necessary.

Hey Bill, what do you use to get rust off the inside between the liners? I've got a stockman with a lot of rust on the insides of the back spring.

Not to hi-jack, but didn't seem like it merited a whole new thread given this one

Tear off a little 0000 steel wool, and stuff it in the liners. Then, use a toothpick or piece of brass rod to scrub it back and forth. Flush liberally with WD 40 when finished, to get the wool remnants out.

thanks for the tips
altho my knife went missing..... i have no idea where the heck it could be...... i searched high and low, under, over, and in between and i cant find it :/

Leave the blades soaking in diesel over night, don't submerge the entire knife. For the rest use WD-40 or mineral oil.
