This here is my first working prototype for the model I'm calling the "Triton". Ted Frizzell is making the blanks to my specs and I'm finishing them. This one is paper Micarta, mosaic pinned handles. The finish is my latest "pride and joy". It's a combination parkerization and patina/etch. It reminds me a little of wootz.

The pictures are pretty bad, but will have to do until I get a better camera and some photography skills:

Specs: 14" OA, 7.5" edge

Criticism (good and bad) is appreciated!

<by the way, this is NOT for sale. just a prototype>

LUST!! screw love.....I am in LUST!!!!

That is SWEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just loverly!!!! :D

Me Likes! Me likes verry much!

[Edited to say] Specs! Give use specs!

I like it! 5160? Reminds me some of Black Cloud Fighting Bowies (which is a good thing). I like the handle a lot; it appears comfortable and secure and the mosaic pins are a nice touch. The double guards work for me as well. I personally would extend the blade edge all the way to the choil. How's it balance?

The pictures aren't that bad. They are good enough to show me a knife that I really like. I love the finish on the blade and that paper micarte looks great.

Wow, thanks for the kindness! Are the Black Cloud knives the ones designed by Bagwell? If so, that's good because I was inspired by his book on bowies and fighters (speaking of which, I plan on having these with a sharpened clip).

Balance is good I think -exactly at the guards- ,although I generally like it slightly forward. But it feels nice in the hand (I hate complimenting my own stuff). This one is 1/4" thick, but all future ones will be 3/16". Ted's stuff is crazy durable, so I think the thinner blade will be faster without any significant loss of strength.

Good advice on the choil. Does anyone else agree that the blade should go right up to it?

Ferret, your compliment is extra cool, coming from an amazing maker like yourself (by the way, that folder hasn't left my pocket since I got it. Except to cut stuff! Amazing work.)

I would not extend the blade right to the choil. If the choil is actually used and the finger slips up the blade a little it could cause a nasty cut. The blade could extend a little farther, but not much. This is only my opinion of course.

LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS! (3/16th steel is fine as is a sharpened clip if thats not already on the original...but leave the design alone!)
thats just IMNSHO tho...hehe

Great lines, i like the pins gives a nice touch. I would not change a thing looks great.

It looks vicious. I love it! The slightly dropped handle with a finger cutout will work extremely well in a number of grips. The double-guard will protect the hand without getting in the way. The black handle and non-reflective finish will keep the knife a bit more 'low-key' as well.

The double-edged spear-point blade makes no excusesand demands no questions. As far as fighters go, this one looks devastatingly effective.

I, like Satin, am very much in lust with the Triton.

However, if the balance on this prototype is indeed right at the quard, I'd keep it at 1/4", maybe give it a slight distal taper, and drill out the tang a bit. Just a thought...

Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone!

As this is a prototype (and I'm not allowed to post stuff that's for sale on this forum), it's NOT for sale. However, we are putting together a line of knives. As soon as we get it together, we'll let everyone know about the web site.

Again, thanks for all the advice. I am going to listen to everyone's thoughts and suggestions as we develop "Dervish Knives", and encourage you'all to throw in your 2 cents.

As models evolve and come to fruition, I'll post more pics (wait until you see the sheaths!).

Later...
