What were the circumstances surrounding your sweetest Spyderdeal?

Me? I found a Shabaria plainedge NIB at a flea market and casually asked how much, acting as disinterested as possible. When the vendor said "thirty five bucks" I almost fell over sideways. This dude was a knife dealer too! :D
 
At one time, SMKW dumped their inventory of PE Shabarias and Massad Ayoobs for $44 apiece. I got one each. The Shabaria came in pristine condition. The Massad Ayoob came in a battered box, minus the plastic bag, and with the clip missing. A quick call to Spyderco customer service yielded a new clip in a few days. The Ayoob was fine otherwise, and continues to share EDC time with a Delica, Calypso lightweight, Meerkat, and Cricket.

The Shabaria and Ayoob have been my "best buys" to date... And the experience with Spydie service has also made me a life-long Spyderco supporter! :thumbup:
 
Picked up a Spyderco Toad from a local shop, it had been hanging around the display case for as long as I remember going there.

I know the fella and he let it go for 40CDN. No box but it was never carried, used or sharpened.

Very happy about that one.
 
A few months back I found a new Aluminum Bob Terzuola for a Buy-It-Now price of $70. Not too shabby :D

Probably an Almite Navigator for $20. SMKW *used to* have good clearances on certain Spyderco models. In fact, their closeouts on Standards and Rookies are what introduced me to Spyderco knives.

Also picked up a PE Impala recently for about $56 at Sierra. Closeout. Got a good deal on a PE Temperance there too, but I can't remember what I paid. Somewhere around $40 or $45, I think.
 
I also hit that SMKW closeout. It was in 2002, I think. I got a Viele, Ayoob and a Shabaria, each for under $50. I also got a FRN DYAD jr. for $30, a couple of Navigators for $20 each and a bunch of Spydercards for $17 each. Those were the days.

Dang, I forgot all about owning a Viele. Yep, bought one of those too, but wound up selling it later on. Sort of wish I'd hung onto it.

Forgot to mention the Calypso full size micarta I got for $52. Another closeout. Another one I wish I still had.
 
Back close to the beginning, I found got a FRN Delica, FRN Endura, and a Q for $60 total. A B&M was closing down.

If I had known what I was doing, I would have bought more. They still had some more Q's, Almite Copilot, A SS Mariner (DOH, I don't need that, what would I use it for?) :rolleyes: :grumpy:, mostly in the $20-$35 range. He also had some Benchmades and others. Oh well :(
 
My sweetest deal wasn't actually a money thing, it was going to the Golden Factory Store and getting to handle all the good stuff and getting to buy several knives. I guess that the Byrd Harrier for 10 bucks was a pretty good deal that day.
 
Hum...... I would have to say it was two (2) Snap It's for 50 bucks out the door a few months back that a local delaer had... One was #14 collector.... :D I laid down the green backs and was gone......... :cool:
 
I bought a his-and-hers blue handled Delica and Ladybug both NIB for about $20 total. They made a great gift to my son and daughter-in-law.
 
I got a brand new ParaMilitary from a guy on the internet who offered them at auction on ebay. I don't remember the circumstances, but I ended up winning the auction for like $90. This was when no one was selling them from the regular online knife shops for less than about $110. :D

I emailed him to find out if he would sell me a second one at the price of the first, and he said NO WAY, and that he had lost on my deal and learned his lesson. :p

Oh, I also got a very-like-new C/E Military from a guy (I think it might have been on BladeForums) for only $90. The thing was in unused condition when I got it. I also got a nice Dodo for only $60 from a guy on here.

Do we see a pattern emerging? :D

I think mine was my two Gray Caly Jrs. I didn't want to risk bringing one across, and then found out that that I couldn't get one. I happened to be in one of the shops, and I noticed that there was an SE Caly Jr there. I decided to buy one to try out the Caly. When they opened a brand new box for me to look at, it was a Gray one:D Couple weeks later, I dropped by and asked if they had any left, and when they looked, there was another one:eek:

I actually have gotten 2 Spyders this year that I considered great deals. I got a Trailing Point version of the LIL Temperance for a Ebay BIN price of $57. It had only been listed for 8 minutes when I found it. Also I got an original "R" knife, numbered NIB SE for $125. Here lately I have been seeing them go for $300+. I feel like I had a blessed year overall. :)
 
I found a couple of "Q"s at a gun and knife show for either $30 or $35 each. Guess what? I bought both. :0
 
combo edge Ti handled Lum Tanto off of eBay for $60. It pays to look at the pictures :)
 
2 years ago, an online store that I cannot recall, was selling off Chinese Lums, PE, for $49. I bought two, and should have bought 10!!! When I contacted them, to make sure the price was right, they said "well, they have been discontinued, so we want to get rid of them". Doh!

Last year, Dallas Tactical was selling off Lil Temps for $79. Again, I should have scooped several more.
 
CF Dragonfly for $14. It was some e-commerce site promo that included a reduced price, free shipping, and a rebate. When I didn't get my rebate check in the promised amount of time, I complained and they ending up sending me two checks.
