Looking for a hot weather boot, I have looked around a bit and keep coming back to the Altama military issue boot. I would appreciate any info regarding the Altama boots or others.

Thanks,
Tom

I've been wearing a pair of Russell Moccasin boots all summer, and find them nice and cool, even when I was in Florida. No relation except a happy customer

I have a pair of Russell PH boots also, I thought the Altama boots may be cooler out here in the CA desert. Thanks for your comments.

I live in a real desert, and often wear Altama's to hunt in.

As far as combat boots go, mine are fine. I can reccommend them.

Batteries ran out in my spellchekur.

Best Desert boots I have seen or own are those from the British firm which is a source of private purchase for British soldiers/officers :Pro Boot Series made in England with Nitrax Dual density soles. Part cordura & suade like US model boots.
Its soft, cool and non slip non clogging sole.

Warmest wishes,
Oliver

I have never been to any desert, but I do own a pair of pro-boot stealths (the black version). I can confirm they are of good quality and very comfortable.

I haven't used these in a desert, just yomping around the local commons, but they've held up very well and are just right for sticky summers.

I'd buy Wellcos over Altamas--same specs + less marketing = lower price. See www.wellco.com I'm not affiliated with them in any way.

P.S. You can't go wrong with Russell Moccasins, either. Everyone should own a pair

P.S. Belleville shoe (www.bellevilleshoe.com) also makes some interesting Mil. Spec. hot weather boots.

I will also recommend wellco. I have had my desert boots for about a year now and they are outstanding. Use them all the time in the local desert and Mountains. No complaints.

Hello Zardoz

What did you do about your acadias in the end? I sold mine on ebay.

Did you get a pair of the Lowa boots?:)

Hi Bush - I've stuck with the Danners, they break in so quickly they are now almost like slippers. You were right about them not being a rock boot though, far too soft, but very comfy amd good in the wet. Seeing as we haven't seen snow in London for several years now, and are unlikely too unless the Earth shifts on it's axis, then I'm leaning towards softer, less insulated boots. seems you Scots have nicked all the oil AND the snow! :)
Cheers,
Dave

Hey, I'm no scot I just live there:) I moved here in January from essex, thats when I found the danners not suitable for this terrain.

As for snow, this part of Scotland gets the Gulf stream and I actually found the winters in Essex colder, allthough it is much windier here and the weather is more unpredictable.;)
